Bradenton has crime I will admit, but whenever I go, I never feel violated or afraid. I used to complain about it more when I lived there but there are far worse crime related places to be and places on the rise that are gonna be just as bad that maybe arent as bad now in the present moment. Manatee county is a suck county in general. I just feel media and people like DailyJ shouldnt pump fear in others because they exacerbate the situation.

I'll take some next time I ride in...oh, by the way, murder last weekend on Perico Island in the old "Bristol Bay" apartments...story and picture can be found in this week's edition of newsmanatee.com. I used to live on Perico when I first moved to Bradenton in 1991....man, how things change.

As an outsider looking in, I can say this- I live in a suburb of Washington, DC and am thinking about relocating to FL this summer. I live in a county where, if you were just judging from the local crime listings in the local paper, it might seem pretty bad. But it is a large county and I live in one of the safest parts and have never felt unsafe or seen any crime, although the occasional incident happens close by- but where does it not? I think in addition to all this, it is also a sign of the desperate times our country is in. Desperation brings about more crimes like robbery...
All this being said, it is verrrrry difficult to get an idea about where I might want to move with all the conflicting opinions. My head is spinning! And of course I will not base a decision solely on other people's opinions. But, it sure would help.

I think this thread needs to be closed, the OP is no longer a member, which doesn't surprise me.

Spinning Heads
I sort of agree with you. From what I remember of my visits through Bradenton, I sort of...loved it. There were "historic homes" and they are just minutes from some of the most beautiful beaches. Right now I live in a small city with one of the highest crime indexes in the country. Most consider my part of town to be ok; it's actually the area that is "sought after"-but even it has the occasional mugging or car break in. However, drive six-ten blocks in any direction and you will see high drug and crime activity. Seriously, if I survive where I am living now, I can go anywhere. I hear gun shots sometimes at night- and again, I live in the sought after area!!

We're sorry for the inconvenience. Many areas in Bradenton are not available on Google's Street View. The guy that drives the Google Street View vehicle, was car-jacked in broad daylight at gun point!

You're probably not joking either, which is the scary part.

I know what you mean about sort of loving it. Half of Bradenton is horrible, ghetto and "redneck" - the other half is beautiful, charming, historic, waterfront - that's the part I love. I love Manatee Ave - it's one of the nicest commercial roads I have ever seen. There are 4 bodies of water that come together in Bradenton which gives it a really charged vibe. Riverview Blvd is gorgeous, and there is a neat downtown neighborhood called "Ware's Creek" that is undergoing revitalization. I also love the charming little "Village of the Arts." Bradenton is a city of so much unrealized potential. It just needs to get it's "ghetto half" under control, and downtown needs some help, although the city is trying. Also I love the beaches there, they are completely awesome.
For people coming from a truly high crime larger city, the crime in Bradenton probably won't seem so bad. Frankly MOST of it happens in certain bad neighborhoods. Unfortunately some does happen now even in the better areas, although it is a lot more random
All in all, I personally still like Bradenton, I actually live right between Sarasota and Bradenton and go into both towns.

Crimes happen in EVERY town. Even ones with a smaller population. Sorry, that's human nature for you. Man is inherently evil.
