Found Live free Jazz at Bacalao Sports Grill & Bar; no cover. Every Thursday 6-9 with Shelly Torman. It's at 1100 N. Tuttle corner 12 St. Grand Slam Plaza across Ed Smith Staduim. Phone 941-366-0157 Also, on Tues. and Sun. there is another Jazz Band. And once a month the second Sunday, there is a Big Band Jazz group of about 17 muscians! Call ahead to reserve seating,again no cover. Great evening. The food at Bacalao is Puerto Rican, Cuban, and Colombian. Lunch Specials $2.99, Mon-Sun. Dinner Specials $5.99. Mon-Thurs. That includes main dish, and four sides, (rice, beans, salad,French fries, Fried Plantain or Yuca). The regular menu is around $8.00 and up. Found out about this place on Creative Loafing website. The Garden in downtown St. Pete has a Jazz band Fridays @ 9:00. No reservations required and it's outdoors with good food - @ $15-$20 a plate. It's a great way to start off an evening on the town.

A couple blocks east is a Ceviche with a cool little downstairs part. It gets crowded on weekends but they have live music including flamenco on weeknights, too.
