Are there certain areas that have city sewer and water in North Port? I would like to know which areas I could be researching. It seems that I see all these homes that would be awesome but they say well and septic. I know on a lot of posts people say that it's no big deal to have well and septic, but we would prefer city sewer and water.
How long would it take to get to I-75 from Venice?

There is a part of North Port that has sewer and water.
One of the considerations that many people make is that a water and sewer bill can be pricey every month, $50-$75. But water and sewer expansion will happen in many areas over time.
I like the fact that I have city water and sewer.
It takes me about 10 minutes to get to I75 from where I live in Venice, unless a draw-bridge is raised then I can see an additional 5-10 minutes.

Thanks Fl Bob. Is there any way for me to find out the areas that already have city sewer and water in North Port? I just found a website that had a good description of some of the neighborhoods but it doesn't specify the sewer/water situation.

I know I've seen a map that shows the areas with water and sewer but I'm not finding it now. The city has a query page where you can put in an address and it will show you the water and sewer availability
here's the link City of North Port, FL - Water & Sewer Availability
So if you put in BISCAYNE DR it will list all the properties and what services they have.

Thanks for the help. One other question, do you think with all the building and schools that are planned that the taxes are going to skyrocket?

No, I don't think they are going to skyrocket. I live in North Port and my taxes went down this year. They are in the process of building one new elementary school that will be finished in a few months. They have scratched the idea of building anymore schools right now. Remember there must be more children to support the need for more schools, hence more people paying taxes to spread the cost around. The city of North Port is also in the process of building a new hospital as well.
There are very few streets in North Port the have newer homes and don't have well and septic. One area that does have quite a few homes (and many newer) hooked up to city water is the area off of South Salford Blvd and the streets that run off of there. My father lives on Targee Ave, off So. Salford and he has city water. Another area is off of South Biscayne Blvd.

There are a few areas in Northport that I like and would buy there. There are more areas in Port Charlotte that I would rather live. Section 15 is one of them. While Port Charlotte is older, there's just something about it that we like more than Northport.
Now Englewood on the other hand........well our painter guy told me an "inside joke" about it a few weeks ago. He said, you know how Venice has so many old people? Their PARENTS live in Englewood! LOL.
We were there again the day before yesterday and went into the publix on 776 and Dearborn. I'm 54 and my Wife is 29. I suddenly felt soooo much younger while walking around Publix and my Wife? She felt like a pre-teen. Hahahaha.
We just bonded with Englewood and hope that this sale happens soon.
Then the task of selling our house in Port Charlotte begins. We're in the process of creating an online "brochure" and SOFLGAL, we'll be looking to get indexed right up there with you!

Lakeside is a nice community. The only thing I don't like about it is the CDD fee of $1429 per year. Many people don't realize that there are two or three streets in Lakeside that don't pay HOA dues but still can use the facilities-Dixie Ln is one of them. There are some really great deal on Jonah Dr & Mulberry where the townhomes are.
Here's something I wrote about the community:
with lots of room for the children to run, play and ride their bikes, you will find it at Lakeside Plantation in North Port, FL. Commuters love this great community since enjoys the convenience of being in North Port, yet it is close to I-75, with quick access to Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, Fort Myers, Tampa and Sarasota and where you will find additional services, entertainment and activities. Lovely Plantation Boulevard bisects of the community, enveloped by natural space and lush greenery. Children play on wide neighborhood streets with names like Pecan Drive, Scarlett Avenue and Cottonwood Lane.
Nearby, your family will find many opportunities for exercise and activity – swimming, boating, bicycling, golfing and much more, or you can choose to stay home and play! Lakeside Plantation has its own large, heated community pool, open dawn to dusk daily. The residents of the community also enjoy a club house, a cabana, impressive Har- Tru tennis courts, a library, a meeting room and card room, a playground, a community park, a billiard room, and a fitness facility open 24/7. You can even buy a Lakeside Plantation license plate for your car!
Though Lakeside Plantation is not a golfing community, it is a deed restricted neighborhood with underground utilities, city water and sewer, and wide sidewalks and streetlights for walkers. Lakeside Plantation homeowners association ensures that your lawn is always maintain ed and neatly trimmed, and the community is beautifully landscaped with indigenous plants and bright flowers. Lakeside Plantation has 649 home sites, many with a lake view. Choose from one-story or two-story homes in a variety of styles. Lakeside Plantation offers 100 carriage homes, 92 villas, 223 town homes and 234 single-family homes.
