I was wondering if anyone knew any apartments/condos for rent in downtown Sarasota. I live in port charlotte florida currently. A friend and I came to downtown sarasota to hang out the other night and it was a lot of fun. I'm thinking of moving there maybe around August, so I was wondering if anyone knew of any places that are close enough for walking distance to Main Street or around there. Thanks!

Ladywithafan is the most knowlegeable person to talk to about apartments and things in Sarasota, and about all the things to do there! She has the inside scoop on everthing there.

Good Luck on the move! There really are a lot of things going on there. Check out St Armands Circle too! That is just over the bridge. Its pretty cool, some open air bar / restaurants to enjoy as well.

The best way to find something downtown is to go on Craigslist Sarasota at least morning/noon & night. Good/reasonable apts. and/or rooms get scooped up fast. Good deals abound, go for it!

If you have any questions, just ask me.

Check out the Laurel Park neighborhood. Lots of houses and apartments available.Right downtown, near bayfront and Selby Gardens.Best way would be to walk the neighborhood...it is very compact. Bounded by Ringling Blvd, to the north,Mound st. to the south, Palm ave. west and U.S. 301 to the east. Good Luck!

Is Tamiani Trail by the Van Wezel Center not considered Downtown?
How IS that neighborhood to live in? Walk in?

Tamiami Trail by the Van Wezel is "next" to downtown.it's on the north side of Fruitville....it's a neighborhood that's in the midst of re-development.

Does "in the midst" mean I won't want to be walking around there at night?
Or not walkable at all (e.g. no sidewalks, nothing to walk TO,?)?
Would it be a good/bad idea to buy in one of the Condos there?

Depends where you walk.

It's on the north/north east fringe of downtown & you can walk to downtown, the Rosemary District is very close & it's just in the midst of change....there is crime, there are drug houses, it's what Palm Ave. used to be probably 20 years ago.

It's probably a lot cheaper to get into a condo there presently. But seriously do your research on the number of foreclosures & special assessments, it maybe a cheaper purchase but more expensive in the long run due to fees, back taxes etc...
