My wife and I just retired. We lost our home and we filed a bankrupcy. Our retirement is $1500 a month. We are living in Southern CA (Temecula) and thinking to move to North Port. We want to know, how is cost of living, if we buy 100K home how much taxes and home owners insurance will be, I am 66, is there any chance, find any kind of job, even part time. I am a woodworker, and my major is business administration, I know Quick Books. Thank you very much. I really appreciated.

You might be looking at $3-4k total for taxes and insurance. I would suggest renting for a year to see if you like the area. Prices still coming down, rentals are dirt cheap and you'll have a wide selection on both counts for the next 12-24 months...

I agree. I would really like to know more about living in Heron Creek. I'm coming down from up North to look at some houses there.

North Port is having it's very own recession, right now.

If you want to know about this town, go to the Sarasotaherald Tribune website and search North Port.

Hope this helps.

I have 3 kids and we live in North Port. I would look in Charleston Park if you have kids. It is definitely a very kid friendly neighborhood. If you are retired and like to golf, Heron Creek would probably be a better choice. Lakeside Plantation also has a lot of kids but it has a yearly CDD fee of $1432, that Charleston Park doesn't have. The Woodlands seems to be attracting young families as well. Everyone I have talked to that has bought in there seems to be very happy.

If you are looking into a gated community be sure you look at all of the fees and amenities so you are comparing apples to apples

Default North Port

We just bought in La Casa Mobile home park, we are extremly please with our purchase, we also own a lot in an a undeveloped area in North Port, just paying the taxes on that one, eventually we will sell that.
But out of the many many homes we looked at , this area I think is the best bet.
Good luck to you
