A quick update for any friends I may be making in this site...
The final steps to finishing our house is nearly there. I just picked up our custom cabinets for the basement bathroom! All I'm waiting on is the countertop which is due within 2 weeks so I need to finish all that little picky stuff around my house by then and we'll be ready to go to market. The place is looking great but it hard to keep up after my kids! Every time I turn around they're dinging up the walls again or breaking something on accident! I know it's hard to be so cooped up without a lot of attention from mom and dad but if only they knew that we're so close!! I keep sending them outside to play but then I find them kicking balls at my garage door or arguing with each other about holding some critter that they found.
The driveway is sealcoated, the grass is a bit greener and my stargazer lilies are about to bloom in the front yard. It will make for beautiful listing pictures! Last year about this time though we had some hail and it destroyed the flowers just as they were opening up. Storms are finally predicted rolling into our area this week - it's been a drought - I hope I'm going to see at least one day of blue sky and lots of color for my Kodak.

ZaraZote - remember the turtle... slowly and methodically he makes progress and never gives up! Every time I see a turtle I just keep saying to myself "keep going, it will work out, just keep going". We will be in the Sarasota area this July for some recon (without the kids). We're planning on checking out houses, riding by schools (even though they will be closed) and just taking a bit of a more in-depth look at the area than we have in the past. I have lived in/around Orlando in the past, my wife and I have looked at the East coast for relocation but we really fell in love with the Sarasota area the las time we were down there so that's where we've determined we want to be.
Regarding your job search, you might consider approaching your current employer with the idea of working remotely.
Best of luck
-Glurk

Just started reading this thread now, we are usual posters to this forum, but have been busy recently. We are in Wisconsin, and feel the same as you and your wife it sounds like. We feel we are 'sconnies only by accident of birth, and are actually Floridians and just need to get back to what should have been our home all along! We too never had any experience with Florida, never had any thoughts of leaving here until we got out and started vacationing and realized what we've been missing all our lives!! We picked Port Charlotte. We were on our way to a couple of days vacation in Ft. Meyers Beach, and having flown into Tampa because it was cheaper and then drove down, we went past PC on I-75 and thought "what a beautiful place"!!!! So we visited it, and fell in love with it, and Punta Gorda. We couldn't afford PG, so we bought a vacant lot in PC last February, and are just counting the years 'til we can return to Florida for good. We understand totally the want, need and desire to get out of this snowy weather. Sure, it's great right now, the flowers are blooming, the weather is starting to get close to 80, but soon the mosquitoes will be here and then we'll be back inside looking at our nice deck and yard from the safety of the house!!
Check out our posts on this and the Ft. Meyers' Cape Coral thread, and also those of the jveltes, they are from Michigan, and are also moving down to Port Charlotte. They are way ahead of us, he has a job he can do from home and has convinced his boss to let him do so!! She's in the medical field, so she'll be able to secure a job no doubt. They JUST bought a house in Port Charlotte, and I think they've sold their house in MIchigan, last I knew they had an accepted offer anyway, and they're on their way!!
So...go for it!! We've met a number of people on this forum in person, and they are as great a bunch of people as the weather is. We hope to meet you someday soon too!!!!

Your story sounds pretty familiar as far as the desire to get to Fl. The family situation sounds very familiar. We will be moving in July to Venice for now and right away start looking for a job and then a house.
We live in Michigan now and can't wait to get there. I was in construction but as we all know I will have to be open to something different. We will have practically no bills and some money saved up.
Like Jennysquirrel said, I will do whatever I need to to make it work, we are just so exited to get down there and start this part of our life. God bless to you and your family.

Come on down! The beach water is just about right - I think its 85 degrees! Come on! No mosquitos down here! I ran them all over when I drove down. I'm still washing them off my car! LOL We had a big rain last night - maybe that helped some.
I've been fishing a few times! Caught everything except a Tarpon. Last night, I went to dinner at River City - one of my usual hang outs, and some guys came in - STINKING! The caught a tarpon on a hand line - which is basically a Big Rope. The said all three of them had to pull the rope, and have tug burns on their hands to prove it. They were all bloody and STINKING! Nice guys! They had a blast! They told me where their "honey hole" is. I'm going to try to check it out later this week!
I'm waiting for you're visit so we can have a picnic on you're new waterfont lot! I'd trespass, and do it my self, but then I'd have to bring my own beer, and I'd rather drink yours!
