Yeah- Miami is not where you want to be. With your determination you are sure to be successful in your new venture. Will you have enough $$ from house sale to be unemployed for awhile if need be? Or work at Walmart just to put food on the table?

I agree. I was born and raised in this state - been to Miami twice - the last time was early 70's. I absolutely despised it, and have never wanted to go back. Gridlock traffic, hoods fighting in the streets, no trees, hot and flat, etc., etc.. and I know it's only that much worse today.
Stick with Sarasota, you will be soooo much happier, IMO. Remember, everything happens for a reason!

We have spent 7 years in our place - bought it strategically as a stepping stone to more money, etc... it has worked as planned and this economic slump has only slowed my neighborhood growth. I'm not going to walk away with as much as I anticipated (after I pay off the bills for finishing the basement) but I will be debt free.
Believe me, your train of thought about just getting anything has entertained me briefly but I'm determined to stick with my current job until an equal or better one presents itself. I basically don't have the guts to do what I read some of our faithful readers doing, which is to just "wing it".

Sarasota Venice Move
People do get jealous when you are moving from a cold climate to a warm one. We moved here a decade ago & didn't tell anyone til we were ready to move (sounds like you already let the cat out of the bag) but just avoid the topic/subject.
There is a diverse economy here, small manufacturing and some aerospace - aviation the guys that make the black boxes are on Cattleman, Loreal or maybe go by Eaton now.... there are some other guys too. Plastics seems big here, some telco, some medical/pharma etc. Venice has some little mfg's too - windows, concrete, FAA refurb overhaul stuff & others.
Housing prices are at an all time low, even lower than when we bought 6 yrs ago & probably won't get any better than this!
We live in Venice & love it. It is quiet yet has all you need, small town but not hick, we are 3 miles from the beach, we are near a bike path & park (Shamrock) & have access to a private beach living in South Venice. We have our own well which we like as we don't care to be poisoned by the fluoride!

Day 6 on the market... no showings yet but it's a holiday weekend... my wife called to say the sign is finally being put in the yard. Contacted more places for a job last week - no calls back. I feel for anyone searching right now. Found the s arasotajobs.com site helpful. Also doing my own search of bigger companies ($1billion or more in revenue) to look at their own potential postings. I feel like a runner poised for the gunshot.... any day now God....

Actually it's Sarasotajobs.net - sorry for anyone I may have mislead in their own search!
Any of you CityData people know of a buddy that may need a good buyer? I can direct message with you and shoot you my resume.
It's time to pull the Ace out of my sleeve... I also have a background of 9 years in television. Actually - I went to school for broadcasting and film production but got sucked into my current line of work for more stability for the family. I'm considering floating around two different types of resumes but I see the market for TV/Film is not any better...

Check out "Beall's Dept. Store" for buyer's positions.
If I were you, I'd get on Facebook and network in Sarasota. We have many arts organizations as well as the Sarasota Film commission. Google it. You may find something by way of something else...usually works for me.
But getting back to the FB thing, I am involved in tons of stuff here where I get notices of events going on around town & networking situations....We started a group for Sarasota Film Festival Rejects and ended up actually having a festival this year, the Sarasota Fringe Film Festival. I am totally involved with it, you can look it up on Facebook, which is amazing for getting the word out on everything today. Make the internet work for you!

Spoke to my friend who owns in The Meadows, he's renewing a lease with a renter but told me he'd be glad to hand over the place to me if I can give him like 7-8 weeks advanced notice. Nice to know he'd help me out but I can't see how that would really work for me... I mean it takes about 30 days to close up north and so I'd be out of a place to live for what... another month??? Could get spendy staying at a hotel or whatever. Plus - I'd hate to kick someone out just after they renewed a lease and they figured they'd be settling in for a few years. I'm not that mean .
Thanks for the continued job ideas everyone! I'm chasing them!!!

I'm not on Facebook, Myspace or Twitter right now. Not a bad idea but how am I going to keep it all straight!?! I've got about 25 different systems used with my day job, my bank sites, my bills, my CityData, my dozen or so job search memberships - and now I'm going to actually join the millions of addicted socialites out there??? I must be getting old....
