Default Summer job for foreign exchange student in Sarasota?

H! I have a 20 year-old pen-pal friend from Russia visiting the USA this summer with a program called \"Work & Travel\". Currently she is living and working in a small town in NH called Seabrook. (It\'s about a 45 minute drive from Boston). The agency found her a full-time job there cleaning motel rooms. She shares a two-bedroom apartment with two other Russian students -- so her rent is reasonable. She goes back to Russia on September 24th. The problem is she doesn\'t like Seabbrook very much (she says it\'s boring). She likes Boston a lot better. She enjoys occassional nightlife such as going out to a club. I\'ve told her about Sarasota and she wants to come here and check it out. The problen that she is concerned about is being able to find a job here for the rest of the summer before she goes back to Russia. (It\'s not like she would really NEED to work if she came here -- as she could live in my apartment and I could provide her food and such -- but she would feel better about it if she found a job here). Just wondering if any of you might have any suggestions for a possible job for her here? Are there any Russian businesses here that might consider hiring her? (Her English is very beginner -- her written English is ahead of her English speaking ability but she wants to improve and learn).

she is NOT SUPPOSED TO WORK AT ANYTHING if she does not have a work-visa

her work visa status is predicated on working for the company that put her in that job in that town

if she leaves that job she is in violation of her visa and subject to immediate deporting and could get in big trouble with INS now due to more stringent enforcement of rules...

I have read that some programs like this are little better than slave labor--but I know that other programs bringing in summer help for the service industry in certain areas (Like Mackinaw Island hotels)
might not be that bad--I can't speculate as to what your friend's is like
BUT if she does not like it and wants to use this as an entry point into the US for summer fun with you, then she is not fulfilling her contract...sorry...but no sympathy from me

if she is not happy tell her to go to the nearest Soviet consulate and complain...frankly I don't think they would give her much attention

PS I don't know that she is what I could call a "foreign exchange student" who comes to US for school--not summer work program...

Finding a job? LOL. No one finds jobs anymore, silly. Meanwhile I'm a CPA and I can't even make more than $37,000/year.

cameralens...if you want to improve your earnings you need to improve yourself. Go back to school and add on to your degree somehow. You have a job so please stop whining about everyone else. Happiness comes from within, not from more money, although it can't hurt either.

****** Vonmehran my friend was in the USA with a program called \"Work & Travel\". It\'s very popular with Russian University students. In this program they work at a job in the USA for the summer (about 4 months) and then return to Russia. What country are you from? *******
