I think he meant from Palmer Ranch (5-6 miles) and you mean it is 12 miles or so from LWR.

BTW, Lakewood Ranch Medical Center is not what it's cracked up to be. My girlfriend had a baby there 2 months ago- they almost killed it. Luckily an outside pediatrician came in and looked at him and then had him immediately en route to All Children's in St.Pete. I won't go into details, but it was all simply down to hooking the newborn up on the wrong machine in the NICU, that lead to them puncturing one of his lungs and him going into distress.

Once my other friends got wind of this, I started to hear their horror stories of their experiences. Beautiful hospital, incompetent staff.

What I was saying is from Palmer Ranch it is 12 miles to Sarasota Memorial and 5-6 minutes from Doctors Hospital. It's much farther from LWR to Sarasota Memorial or Doctor's but they have their hospital/medical center out in LWR.

Where did you get that info? All of the schools in the Lakewood Ranch district are rated "A"

Yes, it is as good as it looks. As you can tell by my username I may be a little prejudiced, but I have lived here for twelve years and love it. We are a safe area and all of our schools are relatively new and all rated "A". And because of that, it brings a lot of families here. We have raised our ten year old daughter here and could not be happier.

Sarasota does not have better schools and taxes are not higher in LWR. Yes, we are a CDD and you can see, by driving through Lakewood Ranch, what you get for that. It is a 25 minute drive from Lakewood Ranch to Siesta Key and Lido beach. What do you mean by saying there are too many snow birds at LWR? Are you comparing that to the beach?

In case anyone cares, I had to call the Turtle Rock Association to get some information and I inquired about how many kids there are in there and the lady told me that they have six full buses that come out of Turtle Rock and over 200 middle school kids.

We looked at LWR and Palmer Ranch, and just bought in Palmer Ranch, in a neighborhood called Wellington Chase. We drove out to Siesta Beach for the drum circle yesterday evening and it took 11 minutes door to parking lot. Also a couple of nights earlier we stopped at the beach on the way home from dinner-- 9 minutes drive later at night with no traffic. Palmer Ranch is also easy access to Hillview and to lots of shopping etc.

Ok I think I got confused because 12 miles to SMH seemed too far a distance. I mapped it from our old family home address in Stony Brook and it's 7.5 miles to SMH from PR... and Stony Brook is probably one of the southernmost communities in PR. So just a wee bit off.

Enjoy the short "drives" now, while you can. That will all change come November.

What would people recommend for a great golf community in the Bradenton/Sarasota area. We want to rent for a year before we buy since we don't know the area. We are looking to rent a 3/2/2 or bigger home, 1600SF or more and would like to keep it under $1500 if at all possible. I keep reading about Palmer Ranch but is it affordable and what about the golf course(s) around there, how pricey is it to play and/or join? Thanks in advance for any help you all can provide = )

I should add my husband and I have no kids and no plans for kids for quite some time. It's just us and our 25lb princess (our dog).
