Default Living in Sarasota without a car

Is it possibly to live in Sarasota without a car, and using the SCAT buses to get around?

My ex MIL lives over by the airport and does not drive. She has been getting around on the SCAT bus to all her jobs (she's a housekeeper) for over 25 years. So, I would say that it is possible.

Yes, if you live anywhere around in the city you can easily get along without a car. Buses, bikes and walking will get you around. You would, of course, probably want to live close to things you will need. Even where I live, in Whitfield Estates up by the airport, I could live without a car if I needed. I have a 7-11, doctors, car repair and a few restaurants within walking distance, airport across the street, and anything else I need including Publix grocery within one mile. Bus stop one block from my house. So, yes, it is very doable.

I agree with Peter. Like most of the US except for a few high-density urban areas, it would be less than ideal to live without a car in Sarasota.

If you live in the downtown area & work in the downtown area, it is totally possible; you will however need to know your bus schedule, allow for bus breakdowns, heat, rain, etc. if bus is necessary. If you're walking or biking, it's all up to you.
