Seain, you can't say I didn't warn you.

My wife has had northerners telling her what is wrong with her home state her whole life. It's a bit of sour point with her.
She gave you a friendly warning too, but then she started brewing over your comments. She has a very high IQ and has no patience with people if she perceives them to be talking down to her.

I can understand that. We have lived out West for the last 20 yrs so I don't care for the in your face New Yorkers that you can sometimes find down here.

At the same time you can get your point across without being rude. It doesn't come across as very "high IQ" when you post with so much emotion.

I don't care for the "in your face New Yorkers" nor do I care for the" racist rednecks" that you find here.

As I posted earlier this is the only state we have lived in where people we don't know start using offensive terms and assume you share their views.

And there always locals.

Sorry, it shocks me. Maybe I am used to living in more PC areas where people keep their views to themself unless they know for sure the people they're talking to share their views.

I prefer people discuss weather, movies, but don't bring up politics or your views on a certain race or sexual orientation if I don't know you.

Tampa just swore in their first woman police chief, she is also a lesbian, they will have to close their comments section soon, most of the posts are rude.

That is what I'm talking about.

tylerrob, you shouldn't be sorry. You asked a direct question about something that was important to you.
You probably should have started a new thread... but hey.

I saw your question right after you posted it, but waited to see what kind of answers you got. I figured you wouldn't have asked the question unless you had already had problems in other places in the past.

The attitudes and anger that I've seen has mainly been directed at anyone who looks Mexican. People who are losing jobs/homes like to have somebody to point a finger at. My step daughter is tough and doesn't take s*** from anybody but it's still upsetting to me, knowing what she's up against.

seain, I understand exactly what your saying; the person speaking will take a quick look around to make sure he's only talking to "his" people and then make his comment.
If you are white then he thinks it's ok to say what ever he wants.

The coworkers I had this problem with were for the most part from other southern states who had been in Florida for years. Not necessarily native Floridians.

My wife is very proud of her families long heritage in Florida. They go way back and the ones I've met are neither rednecks or racist.

Yes that is what I mean. My mouth dropped open the first time it happened. And it has happened a few times in the last two years.

I though how stupid to think just because we are all white we share the same views. What if I was married to a black woman or had an adult child who was gay, you don't know me, it just shows complete ignorance on their part.

I have never been around people who are so forthcoming and assuming when it comes to viewpoints on "hot topics".

If I don't know you I keep the conversation on light topics.

I said on one of my posts the nicest couple we met were born and raised in Tampa, but to say there are no racist rednecks down here is to be in denial.

Because I have met a few, believe me I'm not happy about it. I feel like I'm in a time machine when I meet people like that.

Let's face facts FL comes in at 45 out of the 50 states in students finishing HS. The education in this state is substandard to many other states. It is reflected in some of the people you come across here.

We finally broke down and turned on the furnace tonight. It was 61 on the main level of the house, which means it was even colder upstairs! I just couldn't bear the thought of taking off my coat (I was wearing it when I started supper) and going to take a shower.

Do you know where you will be for Halloween?

If your in the Fort Myers area, this looked like fun for young kids. Check out posts 30 and 37.
Three Oaks isn't that far from where you were thinking of renting.

Hopefully other people with kids will have some suggestions. I know Halloween was always a big deal to me when I was a kid.

After looking at some of your 500+ pages of posts, it's obvious would be miserable anywhere you live. You've got posts on every conceivable board, even in towns you have never claimed to live in so you've obviously got waaaaay too much time on your hands.

I didn't cry "rude" when you called Floridians "ignorant, subculture, Jerry Springer crowd, racist, and different breed". You couldn't refute FACTS with facts so you start crying about being offended.

As someone told you on the L.I. board: If you don't like it here...........move!!!
