I believe you are correct, I don't know where that poster got that information - I think he makes stuff up because he hates it here. Also, there is a glut of people wanting to substitute right now since so many actual teachers have lost their jobs, competition is unreal.

Thank-you ladies, I wouldn't qualify for public school teaching ,I learned engineering, ordinance, construction engineering and customer service on the job at a municipality . Speaking of college, my daughter needs a good 2 or 4 year college to attend in the Sarasota area. Any opinions?

New College of Florida is an excellent school that gets top ranking frequently. It also is very well priced.

Keiser University has a campus in Sarasota as well as USF. Then there's Ringling School of Art and Design.

The only two I know much about are New College and Ringling School of Art & Design. I believe my oldest will be attending Ringling since she is going to be majoring in Fine Arts.

The former Manatee Community College is now State College of Florida. It's in Bradenton; she might want to check it out.

You have to have a bachelors in Sarasota and Manatee Counties and right now in Sarasota you have to also have your teaching degree.

At one time in many counties in FL it was true that you didn't need a degree. Pay scale was less than a degreed sub.

Pay right now for a sub is about $85 a day I think.
