The Ritz will shuttle you back and forth from their downtown hotel to their Beach Club on Lido. I have not been to their Beach Club, but hear it is fabulous! The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota: Beach

A very kid friendly pool is at the Radisson on Lido, located on the beach as well. The tower building is a relatively new, so stick with that building should you stay there.

Thank you, angelfish! Is Lido Beach a nice place? Is it similar to LBK?

Yes, it is very nice. You would be on St. Armands Key where there is a huge circular drive of shopping and restaurants nearby: Longboat Key, Lido Key, St. Armands Key Chamber of Commerce on the Island of LongBoat Key Florida
A unique shopping experience in Sarasota, Florida - St. Armand's Circle Association

The Mote Marine Aquarium is also 5 mins or so, something the kids would enjoy! Mote Marine Laboratory - Mote Marine Laboratory You might also be able to catch a free Ski-a-Rees show: Sarasota Ski-A-Rees

Maybe exploring this site would give you a better idea of our areas of interest: The Official Website for Sarasota and Her Islands + Your Beach Destination you can request a visitor catalog by mail, or PDF I believe.

Also the kids might enjoy a ride on the trolley and you can explore another area if you decide to stay on Lido /St. Armands area

Sarasota County Area Transit, the local bus service known as SCAT, introduced a trolley service that runs from downtown through St. Armands Circle and up through Longboat Key to Coquina Beach where riders can then get on an Anna Maria Trolley to go all the way to the North end of Anna Maria. The cost is $.75 for the Sarasota-Coquina Beach portion; the Anna Maria trolley is free from Coquina Beach to Anna Maria.

SCAT trolley service runs continuously seven days a week from 5:30 AM until 11:00 PM. Two trolleys operate in opposite directions at all times, with a trolley arriving at stops along the route approximately every 30 minutes. The ride from Coquina Beach to downtown should also take about 30 minutes.

The new trolley service replaces the existing bus service that currently runs on Longboat.

Lido is where you go when you just want to park & sun. It's easy on, easy off. When you want to spend hours at the beach, you go to Siesta. Each destination has shops/food within a mile. Siesta is geared to the 20 something age group; Lido is more cosmopolitan in respect to demographics.

Each beach has it's own aura...Lido, if you go to the south end has the parks/grill thing going on. If you just want an hour of beach, stay close to the Holiday Inn.

Siesta, well, you better get there early starting now. Once our winter neighbors flock, you can just about forget getting a parking spot unless you live there, don't own a car or have friends with a driveway in which to store your vehicle.

Not sure what it will be like this season but, the beach is "basically" free until they put up the parking meters.
