What Salon or Hair Stylist cares for Black/Ethnic Hair in Sarasota? (Tampa: hair salon)

I am moving to Sarasota early next year. With any move, one has to investigate certain things that are important one's lifestyle...since one is uprooting oneself from everything familiar.

Often times, people will investigate the following ahead of time in order to assimilate into their new life and new location as quickly as possible: Shopping, Child Care, Movie Theatre, Golf Courses, Fitness Club, Dance Studio, Yoga Studio, Places of Worship, or Bookstore...etc.

For African American Women and African American Men....finding a hair salon or barber that can manage and care for Ethnic or Black hair is just as important. For many people this is not a usual concern...you just don't think about it because salons that care for Caucasian hair are everywhere.

Can anyone recommend a great hair salon or hair stylist in Sarasota or Bradenton that works with Ethnic Hair types? I am NOT looking for a "Natural" Hair Salon that cares for dreadlocks.

I am looking for a salon that can administer chemical relaxers and offer Wash & Set or Wash and Blow dry. Also, my husband will need a barber shop that can cut Black hair.

I'm in Fort Myers, so I know how you feel. I'm still searching....but, if you're willing to travel, there is M Salon 1 in Tampa. I heard about them while listening to the Steve Harvey show during the 'Hoodie Awards' LOL.

I know friends who go to Jetsons in Sarasota, for modern black hair care. Not in the greatest area but they have been located there for many years.
Their barbers there are great!

Thanks for replying. I may have to go to St. Petersburg or Tampa to find a Hair Salon. Otherwise, I am thinking about learning how to chemically relax my hair myself and adopting a comprehensive hair care program. I know many women who have done this for location, cost, convenience, and lack of desire to be dependent on a hairdresser. A friend turned me onto online hair forums dedicated to the hair care of African American women: Keep it Simple Sista (Keep It Simple Sista) and the Long Hair Care Forum (Long Hair Care Forums). These sites offer great hair care tips, but you can get overwhelmed by the time, maintenance, and number of products true Hair Care may require. I guess nothing in Life comes easy.... except for Indi Remi Sewn In's!:-)
