Cool! Bring down a "Beef on a Wick"! They opened a super Wegman's 15 minutes from us in Hunt Valley MD. They even have Zwiegle "Pop-Open" hot dogs! Have you tried them?
Of course, people won't know what we're talking about.

I have recently seen that both Wegmans and Publix have been rated in the top 5 grocery chains in the country. I know why. They are both excellent at what they do although I am partial to Wegmans and think they outdo Publix in every category, I would be all too happy to live near some of the Publix that we were near on our last trip down to Florida. while I wouldn't say they were as good as our local Wegmans they were pretty damn close! Close enough that I think you're splitting hairs. But from personal experience our Wegmans makes french rolls that people die for at our dinner parties. I dont know that I can say that about Publix bakery.
I love Publix but have not had that experience down there. I know that the Publix stores have an a + bakery but the french rolls from Wegmans are kind of like the cabbage rolls from my Ukranian Grandmother. Nobody comes close to them. No matter how hard they try!
I like Publix a lot. They are a quality store.
I love Wegmans. You will not have a better shopping experience with A+ prime quality meat (butcher shop) anywhere in the country.
My god they give you Rib Eye's that you cant screw up on a grill even if you try 2" thick If you dont like what they have they will cut you what you like!
Can I get an amen for Wegmans? Or maybe an all hail Wegmans?

They don't know what they don't know! -BH I can tell you that I've been to many of the super markets down there, and haven't found one that really compares to Wegmans. I do like Publix though, and the other good supermarkets do compare favorably to the other super grocery stores that we have in MD. Wegman's is in a class all by itself though.

When you went to Watkins Glen you weren't too far - maybe 2hrs from where I grew up. I think Wegmans will go to CT before FL. They are more pricy than what people in FL are used to. But, if you want the best - they are it. Like Beerme said. They have 2" + prime angus rib eyes, and when I go, I have them hand cut a 2-1/2" one. They cook better on a charcoal grille, in a feild in Orchard Park NY, with 2 feet of snow on the ground, 12-15 degrees, with a cold beer in your hand, and 20 or so friends hanging out at a bomb fire, throwing a football around, music blasting! Anybody know where I'm talking about - I bet Beerme knows!
I should describe some places - like that, and see if some of the people here can figure out where I am talking about.
Is anyone up for that?

Can I guess? That's where the Buffalo Bills go to lose on Sundays right?
I am looking to trade that outdoor grilling bonfire in 2 feet of snow thing for the 72 degree days in December or January or February though. I love my Buffalo Bills and the stadium experience is just that, an experience each and every game but I am getting tired of being cold and losing and dropping an awful lot of money helping to keep the team here. Oh and shovelling and blowing that two feet of snow all the time too!
You and and me have something in common I think we seem to like beer!

Oops forgot this one. You qualify as knowing what you're talking about since you say wick not weck It is a Kimmilwick roll right?
We don't get a lot of Zwiegles here. Sahlen's rule here. I can live with either and the people who say Nathans have never ever had a real hot dog!
I actually am having thoughts of a dog stand that would carry Zwiegles and Sahlens down there in FL. Can you smell that Big House?
Sahlen's and Zwiegles over the charcoal....Yummy!

Yeah. We can only get Kimmilwick rolls down here at Wegmans. The other places don't know what they are, nor do they make them.
There are some places that would be perfect for that, and a Pit Beef stand. In MD they have Pit Beef stands all around, and they are very busy from lunch time on. They also serve fries that are like Boardwalk Fries, where they serve fresh fried pototoes with skin on, fried in peanut oil.
If people like Nathans, they will love Zwiegles and Sahlens! They don't know what they are missing! Until Wegmans opened, I would by $100 bucks worth of Zwiegles and bring them down here and freeze them so I had enough to last till I made another trip North. And, I don't really care for hot dogs all that much! You have to cook them on a grille though in order to appreciate them!

Hate to brag, but I don't have to worry about it this year!! WE got invited to some fellow 'sconnies who have a winter condo in Indian Shores!!!
I always make Thanksgiving dinner. I've done if for 26 years straight. Everything, ABSOLUTELY everything from scratch, crescent rolls, pies, turkey, the works. I'm taking a well deserved Holiday off this year.

Publix however I would do some of the sides myself to make it not store food! even the frozen squash
heated in a double boil pan and frozen string beans taste better than publix. And do the dressing yourself!

You could also check into the gourmet markets like Morton's or Fresh Market.
