I, personally, don't mind if people bash Sarasota to out of towners. It helps keep the population down a bit. It's just like a great unknown parking spot or great shortcut you find. Once you tell people about it and they tell other people, before you know it isn't such a great "shortcut" anymore. The more Sarasota is bragged about, the more people will come, the more crowded and congested it will become. It won't be so great anymore. Take a good look around and see how it has already changed and not all for the better, over the last 10 years. When people from out of town ask me how I like Sarasota, I tell them it's okay, but I doubt if they would like it here, you know, with all the tourists, heavy traffic, rude out of towners, long lines at restaurants during snowbird season, the heat, not to mention the hurricanes. Some people just can't keep quiet about a good thing. I for one, plan to keep it to myself.

When I visited Sarasota last year, I noticed the negativity from people also. It was very easy to figure out why, because what they spoke of said they really could not afford to live there. I liked the place, but I noticed like any where it had not so very nice places also, it was not some garden of eden and can't be expected to be. However it was very nice and did have a little cosmopolitan feel to it around its downtown areas. I can understand though for many its not very affordable, and if they are living there its in areas they are not comfortable with. I don't think they basically are negative about sarasota as they are about the economics ,and the have and have nots is really affecting their ability to live someplace decent in the area.

The big offshore racing party that was attended at the warehouse on the Sarasota/Bradenton border....I forget which heavy metal band played but everything was free...beer, food, women...it was quite an experience

Was the party free or did you have to pay to get in?
Oh and there is a drawback to the "offshore boat racing"...I don't think the endangered turtles care for it all that much.
How many turtles and other things did they run over and kill in the water this year?
Sorry...Just a resident who would rather see nature protected in the water than a bunch of million dollar speed boats race up and down the coast.

Party was free.
As far as boating goes, I don't. I am not into the extinction of any turtles or manatees either...

forget the party, were the women free?
And i think the problem many of us floridians have with where we live is when we mov ed here, Florida was a VERY affordable place to live. You didnt get paid much, but it didnt matter cause the COL was so low.
then 2001(ish)-2006(ish) happened and our COL goes sky high but salaries stayed the same. thats enough to depress anyone...

There is nothing wrong with Sarasota, it's a decent place in Florida...
