INFORMATION ON CHARACTERISTICS of Gangs
Found this report in: Suffolk County Government
· a change in behavior and personality at home; frequently out late, breaks curfews, rules and laws; secretive about activities, has no respect for you or any authority figures.
· a change in behavior at school; truancy, a drop in grades, frequent detention or suspension.
· graffiti, symbols or numeric codes seen on personal property in room, on books, backpacks or inside baseball caps.
· unexplained cash, expensive material items, wearing a lot of jewelry or medallions.
Tied in with the warning signs is information identifying the characteristics of gangs. Among them are:
· Colors (only wears one color continuously)
· Beads/Bandannas
· Inside lining of pants pocket dyed a certain color
· Tattoos/Brandings
· Photos of groups of youth throwing hand signs and wearing colors
"One or two of these signs may just be normal teenage behavior but if you are seeing many of these signs it may be an indication of a more serious problem, " said Iaria. " I can't stress enough the importance of learning about gangs and gang activity. Knowing what to look for is critical which is why we wanted this information posted on the web page."
To access all the information go to the county's web page at Suffolk County Government and click on departments, then on Probation.

You can google "Bradenton Herald" and read the stories...

It's not SUR-13... it's MS-13....an extremely violent street gangs made up of El Savdorean thugs... hey guess why they are here? Because we have open borders and they got an amnesty called "Protected Status" because El Salvador had a natural disaster years ago.... how nice is that???
Gangs get guns VERY easily and cheap. These guns usually come from Mexico through our open border and these are usually stolen guns from the Mexican army. Google it and you will see how many guns and drugs get in through Mexico.
Bradenton, Port St. Lucie, Miami, Orlando, Palm Beach county.... man, it feels like Florida is the Gaza Strip... I am serious, It may be safer in Palestine than in some areas of Florida. They need to start arresting these thugs off the street and sentence them to life in prison w/o parole. No other way to deal with gangbangers.
I am glad I moved!!

I have an idea on how to get rid of the gang problem really fast.
1. The government offers low-cost to no-cost firearms training classes to those that pass a criminal background check.
2. Offer reduced prices on firearms to those that pass the firearms training class.
3. Put a bounty on known gang members and those wearing gang-related attire. I think a tiered scale would work best... $5,000 for 'known' gang members, and $1,000 each for 'wannabe' gang members (i.e. they think that resembling a gang member is "cool").
4. Offer low-cost or no-cost educational and/or job training opportunities (as well as subsistance-level aid, while in school) to those deciding that the gang life has suddenly become way too dangerous.
How quickly do you think our gang problems would be over?
How quickly do you think our children will suddenly decide that the "thug life" isn't the glorious existence that gangsta-rappers make it out to be?
This stuff of threatening gang members with prison time obviously hasn't worked, because the gang problem gets worse every year.
I know that my idea is a bit drastic, but if gang bangers suddenly realized that simply by being (or resembling) a gang member meant you had a huge target on your back, and that there were people that were trained to "take you out" legally, they'd find better things to do with their time. Of course the "easy money" from drug dealing and theft would be gone, but it's better to be alive than dead.
If I sound bitter, it's because I currently live about 40 miles north of Yuba City, CA, and we're starting to see an influx of gang members into our town, and drive-by shootings and drug activity are becoming more commonplace. To their credit, the local police force has clamped down hard on gang-related activity, and we have a top-notch graffiti-eradication program where graffiti is covered-up the same day it's discovered, but even that only puts a small dent in the overall problem that continues to get worse.

I want to send my kids to school without the sick feeling in my stomach that they will be offered drugs or pressured...but who am I kidding? Well, if anyone knows of this fairtale land let me in on it. How is the crime in PSL?

She was referring to Surenos... Also known as Sur-13, not Mara Salvatrucha(MS-13).

What is G.R.E.A.T.?
The G.R.E.A.T. Program is a school-based, law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curriculum. The primary objective is prevention and is intended as an immunization against delinquency, youth violence, and gang membership. The G.R.E.A.T. lessons focus on providing life skills to students to help them avoid delinquent behavior and violence to solve problems. G.R.E.A.T. offers a continuum of components for students and their families.
G.R.E.A.T. - Gang Resistance Education And Training - SouthEast Region - Orlando, Florida
What are some community anti-gang strategies?
*
Establish a gang intelligence unit in the community police agency-a clearing house for tracking and monitoring gangs
*
Build methods of disseminating advice/information on dealing with gangs to children and parents
*
Enact ordinances, both school board, city, and state, that make it a felony for gangs to recruit in school or intimidate youngsters to join a gang
*
Support initiatives that provide for a rich assortment of extracurricular programs for kids and the incentives for them to participate in them
*
Organize/support workshops on street gangs to be taught to parents, grandparents, and guardians of school-age children
*
Provide public seminars on "street gangs" throughout the year
*
Run media series on street gangs, stripping them of their mystique and exposing them for what they are
*
Encourage service clubs and church groups to sponsor a battery of community speak-outs during the year on street gangs, with the help of the police departments, courts, youth services agencies, correctional institutions, and schools
*
Organize an army of citizens to patrol through their community and erase gang graffiti whenever it appears
