Buddy! I'ts amazing you got one at all and survived! You could have been like the character Déagol from the Fellowship of the Ring movie, who was pulled into the water by a huge fish... .and there Big House would have been... holding his breath, with his reel still in his hand, smiling at the picture he just succeeded to take Can't wait to see it.
You make me sound like a really big, strong man's man! It wasn't one of the huge ones you've seen on the internet. This one was only about 4' long. As I said, my brother took the picture with my cell phone, which I gave hime after I pulled the fish up holding the steel leader. I was pretty nervous about holding the thing. It is stronger than most fish, and quite well trained at snapping its nasty jaws at any particular object of its choice. So, honestly, I hve the utmost respect for that little begger, as I said the last time I brought a bonnet head shark on to the boat (holding the steel leader) it flopped off and started biting everything in site. This fish knew what it wanted to bite, but I had a good grip on him.

Anyway the picture is in my profile. I just wish he got a better shot at the head of it for everyone to appreciate it.

Ok, the picture of the gar is in my profile. I must warn you in advance, neither of us are that pretty! You can see the Christmas lights on my boat. Sorry it took so long to get it posted.

a gar's teeth are long and sharp and plentiful--frankly my dad would not touch a gar with his hands until he beat it senseless--
they are just all muscle--no fat on it--and their mouth is about a third as long as the body it seem like--that was risky...

You're right! It is smarter than a shark, and it was waiting for me to make one little mistake, and I'm sure chunks would be gone. They are all muscle as you said. It was very strong. I can tell you if it was any bigger, I would have just cut it off. When I brought it to the boat I was like - whoa! This one would eat all those frankenfish and keep looking for more. It was an awesome experience, and most people were surprised to hear that I caught one.
