Depends on where you are flying from. We like PGD (Punta Gorda). Small and quick in/out. Very reasonable rates and non-stop with Allegiant and Direct Air. PGD is about 50 minutes from Englewood. Otherwise there is Ft Myers, St Pete, Tampa, etc...

SW Florida International Airport. Just east of Ft. Myers. Very convenient.

You gotta tell us where you are coming from. Sarasota-Bradenton is about the same distance from Englewood as Punta Gorda and they are the two nearest airports. Depending on where you live in Englewood, Tampa and Ft. Myers will be about the same distance away.

I'm a fan of direct flights so I always use TPA - Tampa.

It will depend upon a few things.

Can you get a direct flight?

We have flown into Sarasota and without a direct flight it is faster to get off plane at Tampa and drive to Sarasota.

Are you renting a car?

If you land at Tampa or Ft Meyers the cost of a cab/airport limo could outweigh the cost of a connecting flight to a smaller local airport.

Are you looking for simplicity in the flight, or simplicity on the ground?

My wife doesn't like to drive in unfamiliar areas, so will always prefer to get as close as possible to the final destination, even if we have to take 20 connecting flights. I prefer to get there as quickly as possible, so I'll drive in from a major airport rather than deal with layovers and loss of time getting into a regional airport!

How much is a taxi/limo between Sarasota and Tampa. When our Sarasota flight was cancelled at Xmas, we had to switch to Tampa and drive down. Not a bad drive-less than an hr- straight highway. The one way car rental is more expensive tho.
