Anyone familiar with the Gillespie Park neighborhood in Sarasota? This neighborhood has a lot of cool, older style homes with character that we love. The realtor said the place was gentrfying, any info from locals would be appreciated.

LOl - that is code for "this neighborhood is crime infested but we are going to charge a lot of money anyway." Seriously, though, it depends on your circumstances. If you are a young family, I wouldn't live there. If you are a single guy or young couple who don't mind being "urban pioneers" and can put up with a certain level of crime in exchange for being close to downtown in a neighborhood with "character", you might like it. If you are just going to rent there, might be OK, depending on what street, etc. I wouldn't buy unless you get a really good deal, it is overpriced, IMO.

Hope this helps!

Another 'gillespie park' question. Doesn't anybody use the search function anymore?

It was gentrifying during the easy money days of the Bubble of 2002-2006. Now, it’s just another neighborhood feeling the aftermath. Gypsy Psychic is spot-on. Best Wishes!

This is an old thread and I would love it if anyone has new information on Gillespie Park. We are a young couple with no kids, and currently considering buying in Gillespie Park. It has a lot of cute, affordable homes with character and great location to downtown, but I'm concerned about the homeless problem and crime. Any new thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

http://spotcrime.com/fl/sarasota/ori...gillespie+park Here is a link to one of the many crime mapping sites that will give you specifics on the statistics of this neighborhood. For a more general response to your question, I posted on the other thread regarding Gillespie Park that you started.

I never knew that area had a name. I always thought it was just referred to as "The Ghetto".

I thought the ghetto started north of 10th ave. I think Gillespie Park is ghetto adjacent.
