It is an animal rescue / zoo across from there in Punta Gorda (but way outside of town). They have bears, lions, tigers, panthers, wolves, a babboon, and other big animals that have needed to be helped. It is a non-profit, and they work on donations, volunteers and admission fees. If I can remember the name I'll post it.
Is it the Octogon? Home to abandoned, abused or retired exotic tigers, lions, bears and other wildlife - Octagon Wildlife Sanctuary and Rehabilitation Center.

Then there's Lions, Tigers and Bears out toward Arcadia- http://www.heraldtribune.com/article...ocates-thrives

When I was a kid and lived out on Little Gasparilla Island (you can only get to the island by boat). We had a female FL Panther that would come around. We'd usually see her early in the morning when we were leaving for school.

You're welcome!! I have arranged for my daughter to bring my good camera down so next time I can get some better pictures to post.

When you go, read the story about the baboon. Ok, it is really really sad! You'll be glad you went, and want to support the cause.
