I live in Lakewood Ranch which is considered part of Bradenton, Manatee county. Wonderful community with a lot of amenities and virtually no crime whatsoever. I would stay away from Cortez (41) area if possible.
Good Luck.

google Bradenton Herald, Bradenton Florida; read local news
note where crimes are being commited and stay away from that area
observe your surroundings
Cortez and 41 are just like any other highway but careful where you buy
don't go to local beaches on weekend and holidays ( gangs )
like any city there's good and there's the bad areas
Bradenton is a nice city; it's held it's value in the housing market whereas most of the rest of Florida hasn't.
Snobbish is silly; crime is everywhere; and we laugh about the people that sneak into Bradenton to save money and have this superior air about them.
They are a joke.

We considered relocating to Bradenton from where we live in rural Pasco, but changed our minds after reading about all the crime. We also saw LOTS of really bad areas close to where we would have liked to live, (more in town) as we are not "subdivision" people. And the clincher was the gang shooting on beautiful Coquina Beach on Easter, which I hear is now an annual event.
Live in Bradenton? no thank you.

Stacy - I recommend that you check out the Wares Creek neighborhood of Bradenton. It's just west of downtown - within walking distance of everything. It's an established area with character, lots of foot traffic and it is peaceful.
The reason that there are lots of job postings in the newspapers is that Bradenton is booming.
Good luck in your search.

The NEWSPAPER (a nightridder company) ITSELF is always hiring. Not jobs in the area in general, the NEWSPAPER's openings.

I agree, barefeetin bradenton; Bradenton is popular and not "hard up" for visitors or new people moving in.
Makes you wonder about the people that can't find anything good to say about Bradenton.

booming???
My own opinion is that Bradenton "HAS" boomed...there are always the same want ads in regards to the paper....
Bradenton is trying oh so hard to make a real attempt to clean up its problems. That can only be solved by more indictments than just twice a year in response to the drug employment....you may think I'm kidding but I'm not.
It doesn't matter what area of this town you're in, there is someone doing hard drugs (I"m not talking weed...) on your block.
I know people on both sides....and a regular job just doesn't pay them...on the other side, they laugh at the stupidity of the addicts they sell to...and we're not just talking about street girls & day laborers...this town is ripe in addiction.
Jobs...been here long enough to know...it's not that open...depends on what you do...but these days, there is no job security in Florida...it's a right to get fired state...
