We're considering taking the big step to move south...Can anyone steer me toward where I may look for houses for rent in the Port Charlotte area that would allow 2 well-behaved German shepherds? Thanks!

good luck on finding a place that allows dogs that you would want to stay in.

I've seen some places on Craigslist for that area that look really nice and they say pets allowed. Now..appearances can be deceiving but it's something you might check out.

Thanks brigirl. I checked it out and there are a surprising amount of properties that say pet-friendly. Guess I'll have to get down there and do a sniff-test!

Don't let the downers steer you away(there's a lot of them on here) Ive seen many places that allow dogs with a pet deposit. Good luck!

I never listen to nay-sayers! I've been doing some research, and it seems it won't be too big an ordeal to find someplace that will accept our pets. No I just have to figure out when I can get down for some quality research! Thanks again!

We are in the Tampa area and had a moderately difficult time finding a home to rent that allowed big dogs. We did though! We're moving out of this house this summer and into an apartment complex that allows big dogs. I would say home rentals are much harder to find if you have a dog over 25lbs but apartment complexes are easier. Many of them pride themselves on being "big dog friendly." I did some searches last year in the Bradenton area and had the same conclusions. A problem we did come across was breed restriction (GS in that category generally).

But don't give up on finding a home rental that allows big dogs. You'll find one. My friend has two GS dogs and rented a house with them and NO deposit (German dog loving landlords!).

not a naysayer. im being truthful. we just went thru it. we have 2 dogs and as part of relocating we had to rent for a couple weeks. call it naysaying if you want. but it limits your options.

we also rented in the outer banks for years and any house that allowed dogs was not up to the same condition as one that didnt.

No problem. I appreciate your input. I'm sure we'll have our challenges, but it seems there are actually a lot of options. I'm also sure there will be a fair amount of less-than-desirable places I'll need to avoid.
Where in Jersey are you getting out of? I grew up in Paramus, and have spent the better part of the last 25 years in the Adirondacks.
