Hi,
Can anyone give me their experience about living on Tybee and working in Savannah....traffic and travel time into city on work days....frequency of power outages....can you get cable...I need high speed internet

I love the idea of living so close to beach....I used to live in Key West but must admit that I hate being stalled in traffic.... I will be working on west end of downtown near MLK and not to far from Bay st. with the Housing authority.

thanks for you input....

The drive is not all that bad. The biggest problem that I know of is that when it is foggy, the areas over the marsh are very difficult to drive. If you have to get to work early, this could be a problem. It's going to take you about 30-40 minutes to get from Tybee to the area where you would be working. Finding a place near the beach might be your biggest problem. The way I figure it, is that if you have to get in your car and drive there, you might as well live in town where things are more convenient. You will have to drive to Wilmington Island to do your heavy grocery shopping.

Power failures are probably no worse than in town. In fact, having fewer trees means that fewer limbs fall across the wires.

Red face Living in Tybee working in Savannah

I live on Tybee and work at Armstrong Atlantic State U, which couldn't be a farther commute in the Sav area; about 25 miles 1 way. However, it takes no more than 35-45 minutes on mostly dual lane roads and some freeway. I leave early and return early, most people are not awake yet or still at work. the nicest thing is coming back in the PM; once you cross the Lazaretto creek and get on Tybee, the rest of the world and its problems fade in the distance. It would be nice to have a hybrid, however.
