I am touring all the major cities(mostly in the south), I am half way through, in a quest for an eventual home! I am 27, single, still like to go out without always running into the same people or feeling the small town feeling of everyone knowing everyone. I love the south, but I want a city with a bigger city feel to it and not too poor or dirty. I have the impression Savannah will be like Charleston, which was absolutely beautiful and absolutely boring. Of course I have no clue either way, please feel me in on your blunt opinions of the social scene in Savannah.

Thanks so much!

I am not in the single scene, but I know plenty of people who are and they never fail to find a bunch of other singles in Savannah. The bars are endless and that's where people gather. I don't know what you consider boring...but there are plenty of opportunities to meet people here, and there is always something going on.

Savannah is a party town and one of only a handful of cities in America that allows open containers of alcohol on city streets. What this means is you can go into a bar, buy a beer (or cocktail) and walk out ... usually to the next bar -- of which there are dozens -- or just hang out in one of the public squares or along River Street, drinking and taking in the scene. It's very much like New Orleans -- a wild and quirky river town, but smaller, cleaner and prettier. You don't say if you're male or female, but I've always heard the men outnumber the available ladies in Savannah 2-1 (due to the large military presence). It's also a big college town (Savannah College of Art, Armstrong Atlantic, Savannah State, Georgia Southern) and has a sizeable gay community as well. I think you'll be very pleasantly surprised!

You'll have a great time in Savannah. I've heard Charleston is boring and if that's the case, it can't compare to Savannah's nightlife. Have fun!
