Midway, GA
I'm considering buying land in Midway, about 30 miles south of Savannah. I plan to buy a lot now and build a home on it in 3 years. My relatives, who live in the Richmond Hill area, tell me that Midway is "up and coming" and will be a great place to live in a few years. I would love to hear from anyone who lives in the area as to what they think Midway's future holds. Thanks!

Up and coming what? More generic developments?
You won't be escaping the problems you have up there, you'll be bringing them with you. It's already happening. Too late.

Cheapest Deep Water Property on East Coast
I know that this unfound area will not stay unfound for long. My brothers and I just bought a deep water property at Isle of Wright for under $350,000. This place is awesome!! Over 2500 sqft. Indoor jacuzzi, outdoor jacuzzi, indoor sauna, 4br/3ba house on Deep water. I challenge anyone to beat this deal anywhere on the east coast. Midway Georgia is about to explode. I hope it takes a few years, because this place is just awesome how it is!!
If you are going to buy land buy deep water land. It is still affordable and you will be really happy in three years when you build your house that you spent the extra money for waterfront!!

I was asking if anyone was familiar with the Midway area and if they felt it would be a good place to live in the future. Yes, "generic development" is a problem all over and I'm not looking to "escape" from anything. I don't have any "problems" with the area of NY that I currently live in, I'm just looking to relocate South for the climate. I was hoping to hear from people who know the area and had some specific information to give me, not from someone who who is just generally negative with nothing useful to say. Have a nice day

You should have mentioned that you were interested in the better climate. As if was, it sounded as if you were thinking more in terms of a possible big gain in your investment.
The big change will be that it often starts hitting the 90s with heavy humidity in April and continues well into Sept and sometimes Oct. With heat indexes 100 to 118 for days on end. That is not pleasant. It cools off very little at night. We sit down here sweltering and think about all those lucky people that live in New York.
Add in the mosquitoes and gnats in that area and it could be something that you want to think long and hard about.

To me, a better climate is anywhere I dont have to shovel snow. My husband and I have been coming to the Savannah area for years, during all times of the year....March (for St. Patrick's day of course), July, August, October, December. We've experienced the humidity, the gnats and the mosquitos and know what we are in for. We've made our minds up to relocate to the general Savannah area in order to be near our family, and were hoping to get more precise information about the Midway area. Thank you.

My family bought our house here in Midway in June of 2005, and we love it here. My husband is military so we bought here to retire in a few years. Midway only has a few stores if that is what you want to call them. We are fortunate enough to have a grocery, hardware, autoparts, post office, and a dollar general store. It is nice and quite, we enjoy fishing in the local lakes or going to the coast only an hours drive away. We are centrally located to major shopping centers and downtown Savannah. It was a wise decision to buy when we did, because in a couple of years we would not have been able to afford the house we now have. Midway only has 2 red lights and a good small town feel, close to bigger cities. If you relocate here i sure hope you enjoy yourself and get you a nice southern accent...

Midway Georgia
As a resident of 23 years and a local real estate salesperson, I think Midway is a great place to live but it is not for everyone. Of course there are draw backs to living anywhere but you have to decide what your priorities are. Yes, it is very hot in the summer but that is why we have airconditioning. It isn't as hot as Florida and we don't have to worry as much about hurricanes. The winters are great-very mild but with just enough cold to have a few fires in the fireplace. Midway is a really quiet coastal community with a rural feel. We don't have many stores but Richmond Hill and Savannah are a short drive away. It is worth it to drive 20 minutes to not have to worry with a lot of traffic everyday. If you have relatives in the north that you want to visit-it is much closer than if you moved to Florida for retirement. Of course we have a beautiful coast line and great fishing and you are not far from the beaches in Savannah and Glynn county. I love the live oak trees and spanich moss and the beauty of the marsh. Real estate prices are still reasonable and you can get waterfront or near to water property for much less than anywhere else on the eastern coast. I hope this helps you.

deepwater property

Hello ya'll. I am responding to some of the post. Midway is a very nice area but as one realtor stated, it's not for everyone. I don't know if anyone is interested in the beaufort area but I have deepwater property with a dock and acreage. If anyone is interested, or knows anyone looking for waterfront/deepwater property between charleston, sc and savannah, ga, please refer them to my link. www.blujay.com/Amazing-Grace I actually have a couple of options either 1 lot on deepwater for one price or 2 lots for even better price. It's over one hundred thousand under appraised value so there is equity already for someone wanting to invest or build. Even so, come down to Beaufort, it's truly beautiful here! dee

Moving to Midway
Just bought a house in Midway a few weeks ago. I have been hearing that Midway is like a well kept secret there and yes the property values will be going up. At lease that is what my realtor and a few other people have told me. Especially with the infiltration of new army personnel to Fort Stewart. It is only hear say though but usually that is how it goes in the beginning. Good luck to you!!
