Default Port Wentworth

Hi everyone,

Can you tell me about Port Wentworth? We are not interested in the schools as we don't have children, but my fiance and I noticed that homes are a little more reasonably priced in that area. Any info you could give would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Seems as if I remember that your wife would be working a 12 hour shift at Memorial. Port Wentworth has some nice sections, some not so nice. However, she is going to have a good drive through some absolutely terrible traffic. That can be the pits after a long 12 hour shift, and I don't have to warn you about overtime in the ER, do I!!! What you save on rent might be used up in gas, time, and patience. LOL

That's an industrial area with a big container port nearby. The trucks leaving the port 24 hrs a day. It's the fourth largest port on the East Coast, you can imagine the amount of traffic.

BUT, if you find a house in just the right spot, you may be able to get around the worse of it.

You should know your flood hazard. Check with the Chatham County Department of Engineering at (652-7800) to find out what flood zone you are in and what the Base Flood Elevation (BFE) is for your neighborhood. You can also use the forms or email address on this page to obtain a Flood Zone Determination letter.

There is an older residential area in Port Wentworth that is not bad. I know a couple of people who live there. It is affordable and pretty safe. It's nothing fancy, plain old blue-collar working folks. I'd rather live there than Effingham County or Pooler just because it's closer to town and Pooler's new commercial district is very, very close.

You might find something you like there.
