Default Moving to Savannah

My wife and I are planning a move to the Savannah area and are finding houses in our price range on Wilmington Island. I have been trying to find information about flooding and flood insurance but have had no success so far. Can anyone help with info? Thanks.

Are you asking how to get flood insurance, or are you asking if you will need it if you live on Wilmington Island? I dont think flood ins. is required to live on Wilmington Island- I have a friend who lives on the island and I can ask and confirm. Have you seen Wilmington Island? It is not an island like you may be thinking.

You should know your flood hazard. Check with the Chatham County Department of Engineering at (652-7800) to find out what flood zone you are in and what the Base Flood Elevation (BFE) is for your neighborhood. You can also use the forms or email address on this page to obtain a Flood Zone Determination letter.

We moved to Wilmington Island 6 months ago and LOVE it. Although it gets a little wet here during big rains, flooding is not an issue like it is in the city. Call the Georgia Farm Bureau. They can help with the flood insurance issue. We have our flood insurance with them. I think it's like $120 per year. If you move to Savannah, come to Wilmington Island. We're glad we did. We are in our early forties and have had no problem meeting new people and finding things to do. Check out Wilmington Park. You can probably find something in the high 200,000 to low 300,000

80% of Wilmington Island would be flooded by a Cat2 Hurricane. I would highly recommend flood insurance.

Just had a nice lady down from Cape Cod two/three weeks ago.
We all spent an afternoon together, and she's moving down too.
