I'll be attending a function in October taking place on Bay Street. The hotels there are very pricey, if not booked already. I'd be willing to stay somewhere further out, but not far, no more than 10 blocks if possible. I also don't really want to spend more than $150 for a room. If anyone can suggest a place, I'd be mighty thankful!

You'll be hard pressed to find anything for too cheap downtown. Especially in October. Whether it is at Bay or Forsyth Park. Thunderbird Inn on the west end of Oglethorpe could be an option. Go check rates out for yourself on one of those cheapdeals or priceline websites. It's not hard.

On I95 there's a Howard Johnson for $44 per night - their rooms are VERY clean and they have an outdoor pool and a free breakfast. I liked staying there when we were house hunting...it is about 20 minutes from Bay St...but at that price you can afford to make the commute! Also, it's close to Cracker Barrel too!!!

Have you heard of Couch Surfing? I do not have personnal experience, but I hear it's quite popular with young people. Google it.
