I am very interested in moving to Savannah but have heard a lot of horrible things about the crime. Is it really that bad or is it just a couple of people who have had one bad experience and are making it seem like it's like that all the time? Does every one have something awful happen to them or just the few unfortunate ones who decide that because it happened to them it must be happening to everyone?
Keep in mind that every city has crime, but if your like me you grew up in a town where there isn't very much crime at all so any little thing that happens seems like a big deal. If you fall into this category please take the time to look back and review the bad experiences and decide if it really was as bad as you thought. I would like to get the most factual answers that I can without it being too distorted by personal feelings, this includes people who love the area so much that they would never consider fessing up to the bad things that happen. Sugar coating it won't do me any good either. I don't mean to offend anyone, I just need facts not opinions! Thank you for your time! |

That's a huge concern of ours as well. Seems like all of our research into Savannah has had crime as the most major factor, all red flags. We're trying to learn real everyday facts from regular people that live there.

Misty, regular people who live here have told you and others who have posted the same question..........Crime is bad in certain sections. If you don't go or live in those areas, you have little to worry about. It's impossible to list ALL the "safe" areas. There are too many.
No place, except one that's in the middle of nowhere with about a 500 person population will be 100% crime free. America isn't Mayberry and Sheirff Andy Taylor. If you are worried, it would make sense to go somewhere else. Last edited by Padgett2; 08-18-2007 at 12:49 PM.. |

if you're worried about crime in Savannah, stay out of Savannah, thats what all of the local residents have been doing for the last 30 years. We've all been moving to the surrounding counties and staying out of the actual "city" and getting into better school systems, with no crime, and lower taxes. I likewise would not live in downtown Atlanta, Dallas, Orlando, NYC, Miami, fill in the name of a large city here either, thats where the crime is.
Savannah does however have a new police chief that seems to be very active and hopefully is making positive changes. But just like any other city, the downtown area near any road starting with MLK is probably not a safe place to be. |

![]() Putting Savannah down is a really big deal to you isn't it. You must have SOME idea how silly your comments are. Look, I'm really sorry if you had a bad experience or can't get dates. Savannah is not without flaws. But there's more than enough good stuff to balance it out. If a person wants big city life then maybe they'd be pretty dumb to move here, like you did. But that doesn't mean big city life appeals to everyone. And, as I tried to tell the person who calls themself "SavSucks", you really need to step back and look at yourself if you feel the location is the source of all your problems. EVERY place has its pluses and minuses. But when you start believing that where you are is ALL bad, that's you - not the place. |

When I was single I lived in places much smaller than Savannah and never had any problems getting dates. It sounds like they might need a makeover. I would be interested to know if they are college educated or not though. I see many jobs available in the area for engineers, managers, teachers, and other professsions that pay a good bit more than $12 and hour. |
