Just was wondering if it's nuts to think about Wilmington or Tybee if husband is at Gulfstream? Otherwise I've heard Pooler is decent? Any comments on the drive and on Pooler? We're originally from Miami and really miss living near the water.
thanks |

Nope. not nuts at all. I know exactly how you feel. Wilmington or Whitmarsh Islands would work. Forget Tybee unless you just have to have the ocean. It would add a lot of time.
The Islands will have you drive across the marshes and the rivers. You won't be ON the water unless you have loads of money and luck up on a house, but the drive into Savannah is nice! I think there is one apartment complex that is on a river. The commute from Thunderbolt, or the Islands, wouldn't be horrible, just not the best. And some mornings, he might even curse a little. Another place worth thinking about is Thunderbolt. There are apartments/condos right on the Intercoastal Waterway. Lots of boats to watch as they go by. The commute is a little trickier, but would probably be about the same timewise as the Islands. The best commute would be from Garden City, then Pooler or Bloomingdale areas. But I have to tell you, you will yearn for the water!! Pooler has a lot of new homes. There's a big building boom out there. |

My husband informs me that the drive from the Islands would get old very quickly, and that the Pooler area would most likely be the best. He's right of course!
You might even want to think about going into Effingham County to places like Rincon. |

The Gulfstream Road is to be 4-laned from I-95 to Ga 21
Many new developments are along Pooler parkway, Jimmy Deloach Parkway, and 21 into Rincon These are also exits along I-95 Jimmy Deloach Parkway (Highlands) in this area some of the developments are in the city of Savannah---higher taxes Rice Hope is a 4500 home master planned Traditional Neighborhood Development with community intranet superdooper fiberoptic connections into the homes. and made to look like the historic district Traffic on 21 out of Rincon is a problem the county built water and sewer but forgot about roads No quick solutions for traffic on Ga. 21 | SavannahNow.com "No quick solutions for traffic" "Better planning and more projects are needed to prevent the situation from worsening as development continues, Carter said. hmmm, thanks for the feedback. I just posted in another thread that we may end up renting in a community for once. We're so used to living in a house but since we don't know the area we figured maybe short term it would be better in an apartment/townhome community.
I forgot to add in my initial post that we have an 8 month old daughter so I don't want to be in the middle of nowhere. While schools are not an issue, I do want to be relatively close or a short drive to libraries, shopping, pharmacies etc. any more comments??? |

Welcome to The Villages at Berwick (broken link)
Very nice new area. One guy who moved there said he got a bit of ribbing from his coworkers, Islanders who would ask for his "lot number" |

I have a 3/2 house in River OAks on Wilmington Island that I do short term rentals. I asked a neighbor if there were many people that work at GulfStream and she there were a lot.

Tybee Island has a little stretch of beach. That is the only "island" near Savannah that does. So if you are thinking of Wilimingon, Oakland, Whitemarsh Islands, ETC. and think you will be watching the sun rise over the ocean, forget it. All the islands except the east side of Tybee are surrounded by bug infested marshes. The bugs will eat you alive in the Spring, Summer and most of the Fall. They are all over crowded, Tybee is a real dump and yet is VERY expensive to live on. STAY AWAY. Your best best is the west part of Savannah.
