How is it in Hinesville, GA
I am looking to move to Hinesville and want to know about the community. I been there a couple of times and liked what I saw, but is it a nice place to live. Are people friendly?

crappy hinesville
no hinesville is so crappy there is nothing to do there unless you are from a small town then maybe this will be right up your alley but if you are from a big city I cant say that you will be to happy here unless you are just looking for a change to live in a small area I hate it hear the job market is no good and besides ft.stewart being here I really don't know why anyone would want to live here, but good look to you if you decide to live here.

Hinesville is a good hour drive from Savannah. I would say it is a "boring" military town, but housing may be more affordable there. Schools are probably a little safer than most in Savannah, and I know folks who commute from Savannah just to work there.
If you want to be close to Savannah but not in it, then go for Richmond Hill, Pooler, or maybe Garden City. If you are looking in the -other- direction, I consider Jesup nicer than Hinesville (but still kinda "boring" unless you like smaller towns). Jesup even has a drive-in movie and an Amtrack "station." But... the paper mill stinks up the air in parts of town. Midway and Ludowici are also fairly near to Hinesville, and are very tiny towns.

My husband and I are relocating our family {3 kids and a canine companion} to Hinesville in October of 2009. It is a very small town but it has the esentials, grocery stores, decent schools, specialty shops, and is very walkable, which to my family at least is very important with Gas nearing $4 a gallon.. savannah is between 45 minutes to an hour away depending on where you want to go and how fast you're driving. It is as you have noted a beautiful area. It isn't exactly hopping with nightlife, of course, but it is much more affordable and liveable for families than Savannah.
This is just our opinion, of course and we don't have what most would call 'normal' expectations. We want good schools, peace and quiet, friendly people, basic needs within walking distance or a very brief drive, and a short commute to an urban area. We stayed in Midtown Savannah in february and maybe it was the off-season lack of traffic but we regularly made it from our hotel to the walmart in Hinesville or the downtown area in about 40 minutes.

Hinesville is a wonderful city, quickly growing. Every day I lived there there was new construction, new roads and buildings. They are getting more and more restaurants each year, and the school district is well funded. You have to understand its population is based on the military, and its hard to grow out there by itself. Instead of hating on Hinesville, you could make it better by praising it, and welcoming more people to it.
