I will be a single empty nester at age 41 when I move from the MD/DC in 2009.
Savannah is one of 5 cities on my list… What is the one thing about this city that I must know before making a final decision? What is the best place to live, for walking to restaurants, shopping and conveniences? I know I will be looking for condominiums b/c I am not one for exterior maintenance, where are the newer ones being built? What are the major Colleges and Universities in the area... I would like to finish my history degree one of these days . Thanks for your help. |

First....colleges. There are two major universities, Armstrong Atlantic State University and Savannah State University, that would probably be your best bet for continuing your education.
The best bet for walking to restaurants, would be in the Historic District. Shopping as for groceries, etc. would mean the other areas of the city. Some area are better for that kind of shopping than others. There are condos all over the place with more being built all the time. Just about everywhere except the HD will require a car unless you want to ride a bus. I am sure that you will be coming to visit before you make the move. Good Luck, it's a big move. |

A recent graduate, another good university is Georgia Southern University, which is located in Statesboro-50 west of Savannah. The undergraduate and graduate programs are Excellent! There's also a facility downtown (Coastal)if you do not want to commute- but the commute from Savh to S'boro on I16 is a breeze compared to your commute (if you commute) in the DC/MD area. Also, South University is good or at least that's what some of my former co-workers claim.
