DH and I will be visiting Savannah at the end of the month. We'll probably be spending four nights there. One day will be for Tybee. What are the "must sees" as well as off the beaten path for things to do and restaurants?

Can't wait to visit!

-- Take a nighttime ghost walking tour (many to choose from) or carriage ride.
-- Have lunch at the Cafe in Forsyth Park; take photos around the famous Forsyth Park Fountain; go across the street to The Mansion hotel and take in the truly bizarre art collections on display.
-- Walk the length of Bull Street from Forsyth Park to River Street and Jones Street from East Broad to Barnard.
-- Step into the awe-inspuring Cathedral of St. John the Baptist for a few cool moments of quiet contemplation.
-- Next door to the cathedral, walk through the original Colonial Park Cemetery and try to decipher the nearly 300-year-old inscriptions on the ancient tombstones.
-- Purchase a Telfair Museums all-access pass ($20 adults) and tour the original Telfair Academy of Arts & Sciences (classical and Victorian art); the Jepson Center for modern art (works by folk artist Howard Finster now on display); and the Owens-Thomas House Museum (the most authentic English Regency house in North America, with original slave quarters still intact!)
-- Check out the uber chic exhibits on display at the SCAD Museum of Art (they had several works by Robert Mapplethorpe last time I was there, along with an inspiring display of African-American art, haute couture fashions and an exhibit of bricks -- yes bricks! GENIUS!)
-- On the way to or from Tybee Island, stop and visit the very impressive Fort Pulaski National Monument.
-- Get a picnic lunch at Parker's Urban Gourmet Market (fanciest gas station / convenience store IN THE WORLD!); drive out to Bonaventure Cemetery in Thunderbolt, made famous in John Berendt's "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil;" head down Skidaway Road to Wormsloe Plantation, home of the world famous mile-long drive of live oaks; then take a driving tour of breathtakingly gorgeous Isle of Hope.
-- See a show at the Historic Savannah Theater, the Lucas Theater for the Arts or SCAD Trustees Theater (pick up a copy of our local free alt weekly paper CONNECT to find out what's on stage the week you are here).
-- Have happy hour cocktails and watch the sun go down over the Talmadge Bridge at Rocks on the Roof from atop the Bohemian Hotel River Street.
-- Dine at the Olde Pink House; enjoy after dinner drinks in the basement tavern.
-- Get cheap beer and slices at Vinnie Van Go-Go's in City Market.
-- Have lunch at Mrs. Wilke's Boarding House (line starts forming about 9 am)
-- Get take-out at Zunzi's on East York Street; order the Conquistador or Olivers Lunch.

PS -- For more details and research, all of these suggestions can be easily found on Google, etc WELCOME TO SAVANNAH! Enjoy your visit!

The D can stand for a lot of things, like dear, dumb, but the H is for husband.

LOL @ PADGETT AND 912!!!

I could never figure out why people on these boards were always talking about a "designated hitter." I understand the use of DH implies affection, but is it really all that difficult to type "my husband and I" or simply "we"?

This alphabet soup on the Internet gets really confusing at times.

It's the lazy way. Quick.....I would rather type DIL than daughter-in-law.

For the two finger User, quick and easy makes a lot of difference. But, I'm with you....why don't they just say "we"? Does the reader really have to know that she is coming with her husband rather than her BF, SO, GF, SIL, MIL, GM or whatever?

And my apologies to the OP. We really shouldn't have taken this so far off-topic. I hope you enjoy your stay. Sometimes the weather has a mind of it's own, sometimes people get lucky. May you be one of the lucky ones.

A trip out to Wormsloe and a drive along the Bluff at The Isle of Hope is worth the time. Drive back to into Savannah on Laroche Ave and take a look at the Tree in the Majestic Oak Subdivision.
