Savannah among fastest growing metro areas

Savannah ranks 38th on a list of the nation’s fastest growing major metropolitan areas, according to data released this week as part of Pitney Bowes Software’s inaugural Metro Magnets Index of 384 metro areas with more than 100,000 households.
Over the next five years, Savannah’s population is projected to grow 5 percent, 6,700 new households in total, at an annual rate of 1 percent.
That comes as no surprise to Bill Hubbard, president and CEO of the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce.
In fact, he can sum up the area’s growing popularity in two words: Baby Boomers.

Actually it may be faster than that...

Gulfstream is starting to ramp up production of their G6 jet finally after receiving their airframe license...

Commercial construction is booming around town. Their are several huge retail projects about to kick off...

The LNG project will be the largest construction project ever in Chatham county and when finished will employ almost 800 people, almost all of them will have to be recruited to the area as they skills required for that job are not normally seen around here...

I agree, those growth figures are actually on the low side. Savannah grew at a faster rate (18.6 percent) in the last decade when the economy was tanking. A more robust economy, the port expansion, new retail and industrial already in the works = to telling how much growth is headed Savannah's way.
