A few questions for anyone in the know. Due to job transfer relocating to the Savannah area. Looking at the outlying areas for affordability but most important is the school system. I can afford anything if the school is worth it. Someone give me opinions of the schools in Port Wentworth or Richmond Hill or any other areas.

Thanks

Are you talking about private vs. public schools? High school or kindergarten? Big athletic program? Great acedemics with strict admittance policy?

Also, how long a commute do you want? An hour spent on the road might be worth a lot less than the same hour with the children.

The school system in the Savannah area is being revamped a great deal. what was once a terrible school might have a specialty program that is just what you need. Also, school districts are movable. Where you live might be within walking distance last year, and this year , require an long bus ride. In the public school system the child is sent to the district assigned, then, if a specialty school is wanted, he/she is put on a list to be transferred.

The short answer to your question: Richmond Hill is more upscale and has better schools than Port Wentworth, which is more blue collar. Depending on where your job is located, either could be a good commute or lousy commute. You may also want to consider Effingham County, which is a little further out (beyond Port Wentworth) but also has good schools and plenty of housing options.
