I grew up in Central Florida, with family and all. When I was younger I went out dancing alot and meet a ton of people that way. I will say it was "Country Bars" where people can dance and people not grinding on you. My husband met people through his soccer league. I think you just have to do the things you like and you will meet people through that!

Well of course it is alot easier you meet people and friends where you grew up and spent years. It seems you just have a case of home sickness. I'm not sure about country bars but there is a very active night life in down town Savannah especially for its size. Great festivals monthly. Plenty of sports leagues. There are soccer leagues, rugby leagues, flag football leagues, etc.

The places most people meet friends in cities in America are:
Churches
Job
HomeOwners Associations
Sports Leagues

Savannah has plenty of such places.

Good luck.

BNC0307,
My husband and I are about to move to Savannah (for Gulfstream) from Sarasota, FL. We are from Dallas/Ft. Worth, but have been in Sarasota for a couple of years. I know how you feel about it being tough to meet people! Almost all of our friends in Sarasota are also transplants!! We are in our early 30's and have a one-year old (and yes, I agree it is a little easier to meet people with a baby!!). I would love to hear more about your experience, where you chose to live, how you like it (getting better??!), etc.

Look forward to hearing from you!!

I think it's easier said than done. We do attend the festivals, my husband & brother-in-law play soccer, we have met a few people through work, we only have a few neighbors...it would just be nice to connect with someone. If you talk to "trans-plants" to Savannah, we absolutely get a feel of if you are not from here...you get passed by! I think places like Orlando that are kinda tour-isty have a more open attitude. I have encountered very nice people here, but it doesn't seem to be SO easy.

We love the weather, especially the fall and winter so far. It's nice to have less humidity and open the windows more often. The monthly festival that we have attended have always been fun. I think there are some good aspect to this city but it just isn't the final stop for us. Moving is one of the top stresses in ones life, I think that says something. Savannah, Orlando, New York where ever is not going to be perfect...but we are giving it a shot!

Hello

I am going to be moving to Savannah February 1st and I am just trying to maybe get to know some people that already live there. Maybe also someone can tell me some of the local hang outs and the in's and outs of savannah.

There are music bars and restaurants all around downtown. There's a little place called The Chocolate Bar, with Chocolate drinks and great desserts, and it is always packed on the weekends. The nightclubs don't have the best reputation, but there are a few I think. On the river there are a bunch of bar and shops, people walking around, watching the river and boats go buy. And usually some form of entertainment along the river, from dancers, to people playing instruments. Not to much outside of downtown, I guess except on Abercorn(204).

Default DON'T MOVE TO SAVANNAH!!! It's a poor, reverse racist, poor city to say the least!!! FULL OF CRIME TOO!

RUN FAR FAR AWAY FROM SAVANNAH AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!!

Please save yourself a headache and DO NOT move here. There is tons of crime and the blacks here are VERY different from the North, the West and the Midecentral area. Firstly, I did not even have a problem with racism (I have a mixed child) until I moved here and got a FULL DOSE of REVERSE RACISM. They hate whites for the most part and are so crooked everywhere you go! They think they're still owed something for the civil war which THEY WEREN'T EVEN ALIVE FOR (I'm talking about the one's that harp all day long about being slaves when it was their great-great grandma), don't want to work and drive down the economy with their poor me attitudes and a completely "non-existent work ethic." The school system is downright scary, there is little choice in foods except for fried this and fried that. I've gained about 30 lbs since I moved here and there's a not a single REAL salad joint for about 200 miles. The cost of living is just rediculous for the wages on top of the fact the builders here just clear cut and plop down these 1,100 sqft matchbox house neighborhoods with no class whatsoever and then want to sell them for $200K. Sure downtown may LOOK pretty, but once you get into midtown and past where most people can "barely" afford to live, you have no class in the neighborhoods. Everything is made quickly and cheaply in order that it will fall apart right after you buy it! I have a Bachelor's Degree and over 6 years of work experience to include the military, and I STILL couldn't get a decent job for over 3 years!!!

Let me just say........... WE ARE PLANNING ON MOVING BACK TO THE MIDWEST VERY VERY SOON! I'm pretty much DONE with Savannah as a whole if you know what I mean!!! It's a nice place to visit, but please reconsider living here. Plus, if you're white and you need government assistance temporarily, FORGET IT!!! Even DFACS is run by the ghetto blacks and they're all about keeping the system going if you know what I mean. They'll make sure those who really need help DON'T get it and the one's who want to abuse the system keep getting to use and abuse it. ENOUGH SAID! They can have their CURSED town for all I care. This place is so oppressive and ignorant!! There is NO SUCH THING as SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY here sweetie! That's a myth!!!
