Upscale Area/Nightlife? (Savannah: hotels, restaurants, beach)

My girlfriend and I are planning a trip to Savannah this summer. Could someone advise on the best area to get a hotel in? Where is the most concentration of nightlife/bars/lounges/restaurants? Is there an area of town that has more upscale nightlife than the rest? We are looking more for great wine bars and lounges, not so much beer bars. We are looking for a place we can have a fun evening, somewhere not as laid back, but maybe requiring more of a dress/heels------blazer type of attire. Any trendier venues ?

Nightlife aside, Is there any activities or places to see that would be recommended for a great Savannah experience?

I hear you can have open containers in Savannah, does this apply to the beach as well?

The historic district is the area you need to visit.

While we have plenty of events that may meet your criteria, I'm not sure if a single lounge or night spot that consistently has the kind of dress code you are looking for.

A few years ago someone else was asking for similar info and I'm not sure anyone came up with a solid recommendation.

You might try one of our boutique hotels like the Bohemian. It has an upscale bar on the roof that will probably meet your expectations, for the most part. Since this a smallish tourist town, people may wear whatever.
