Hi, I'm a Georgia native, single guy in my 20s, with family and friends living around Atlanta. I live in New Orleans now, but am looking to move back to Georgia.

One prospective job is in the Midway/Hinesville area. I am used to/prefer quiet towns, but:

Are there apartments in this area? I'm assuming it probably revolves around Fort Stewart, so maybe a lot of amenities there for military families and young adults like me.

I have a long-time friend in the small town of Baxley. How close is it, reasonable to hang out on weekends, things like that?

If I need to go to Savannah, how close is that? Should I look for apartments in the Savannah area and commute to Midway instead? (Price-wise, any difference?)

And also...How long is a trip to Atlanta? Probably three or four hours? That's part of the reason I'm not sure I want to pursue this possible job, but just looking at options first.

Thanks for any advice, guys!

I'd look in Richmond Hill, 40 minutes to Downtown Savannah, 30 to Midway.

Richmond Hill is 20 mins to downtown SAV via 95 / 16 ... 20 mins to Midway via Coastal Highway / 95

Richmond Hill and Midway are roughly 1.15 to 1 1/2 hours from Baxley. Atlanta, depending on what side of town would be 3 1/2 to 4 hours taking 95 to 16 to 75.

Thanks, everyone. Reading other threads, Richmond Hill is pricier but safer than Hinesville, for example. What's the smallest, cheapest apartment you might find in Richmond Hill? Is it a family-area, a small town area, a "college students who go to school in Savannah" area, or mix of all?

Hmm, that far to Baxley? It looks closer on a map. Oh well.

Don't know about rent prices, check Craigslist to get an idea. RH seems to be mostly families, professionals, and retired people. Seems pretty quiet, but it's not so far from Savannah that you would feel isolated or suffer from social deprivation.

Yeah, Baxley is farther than it looks, but a pleasant drive that won't prevent you from seeing your friend.

You might want to check the Georgetown area of Savannah which is just outside Richmond Hill but in Chatham rather than Bryan County. Tons of apartment communities in that area, but traffic can be horrible.
