Just as they get all the painting done and the camera crews show up, the Susan Komen people will try once again to string bras all across "Bra-ton" Street and the movie producers, horrified at these "southern hicks" hanging up their unmentionables to line-dry in public, will pack up and leave in a huff. On the bright side, Victoria's Secret folks will decide to set up and film their "holiday fashion show" in front of the SCAD Library.

I was walking on Broughton st yesterday morning about 10am. Bright sunny day with autumn in the air. Only one problem and maybe it's just my good nose BUT I couldn't get over the stench of urine in front of ever vacant store front. In fact the smell is still in my nostrils and need to do some serious walking this morning in the park. Either that or stop being an old man.

Maybe the nite time drunks can use the film crew's porta johns?

When I worked on E York, I saw a guy haul off and pee against the building across the street, and that was in broad daylight. The vagrants are a big problem in Savannah, but really, it is hard for a tourist to find a place to go, let alone a bum. The only public restroom I know of is on River St. at the Visitor's Center, and no businesses have public restrooms.
This is something that should be addressed by City Hall. It's only common decency.

I was just down on Broughton Street. Even more progress being made on the facades today. Several are really looking good! I asked a guy coming out of one of them if they were going to leave the colors afterward, and he said he didn't know. A few doors down I popped in and asked a shopkeeper, and they said the Hysterical Society had only allowed a "temporary" permit and all colors were going to have to be returned to their originals after the shoot. WHAT A CRYING SHAME! On several of the buildings, it's a VAST improvement!

OK, so hopefully, we can rely on the same kind of complacency and incompetence from City Hall in this regard as in other things? HELLO? Free Paint job.

Maybe the Hysterical Society will further exercise their totalitarian control over the city by deciding which buildings can be painted back to their original colors, and which ones should be left with their new paint job.

I'll bet Rochelle Small-Toney is off somewhere cursing the loss of an opportunity to get her office painted without having to pay for it.

INTERESTING ASIDE: The old Clipper Trading Co. location at the corner or Barnard and Broughton is the staging area for the movie. You can walk by there and see sets under construction, props, costumes, etc.

For the past couple of years I have not paid much attention to how big the film industry is here in Savannah. Coincidently, over the past few days I've had several meeting and conversation where the subject has come up, and the opinion of people that I respect confirm its a factor for our city.

Glad to see this activity happening.
