Hello Savannahians,

I'm looking at potential places to live in the next year or two and Savannah is at the top of my list right now. Can anyone give me some general info/insight that most people don't think about when considering a move to Savannah? Jobs? Traffic? Locals?

A bit about me: originally from a similar sized historic-coastal city, moved to a small coastal town for a few years (both in the south) and attended college in a traditional college town (which as I'm sure y'all know with SCAD, local thugs, can/will prey on college students... so the danger doesn't bother me, as I've become accustomed to it). I got my B.S. In environmental studies/geography/GIS/earth sciences, whatever you want to call it and I'm currently studying homeland security in grad school. I really want to stay in the south, and on the coast (as I've never lived anywhere else aside from college). I'm looking to get a small skiff to fish with..how are the local waters? I'm sure y'all have red drum, speckled trout, etc like all of the other Atlantic southern states.

Thanks for the info ahead of time.

You might find a decent job but I wouldn't move here till you find one. (Rent's too high, LOL) Savannah State has a marine biology program, and UGA has taken over the Skidaway Institute. Keep an eye on both. Likewise, keep your eyes on the City, the MPC, and to a lesser degree, the County.

The fishing is good in the fall even if you're not a good fisherman. The rest of the year is variable depending on your knowledge, skill, and luck.

Locals are a mixed bag everywhere. Depends on who you are.
