Default Tourists need help!

Greetings! My friends and I are scattered around the US but want to take a trip and meet in Savannah. We have NO IDEA how we will get around. Is there a good transportation system that we can hop on and off of at a reasonable price or should we rent a car? If we are staying in the historical district can we walk to most of the attractions? Can anyone recommend a decent priced place to stay that we can be as close to things as possible? I don't want to sound cheap but this is a side trip with friends and not a family trip so we can't afford to blow a bunch of money. We also don't want to stay in a dive. lol

Any suggestions on "must sees" or "don't do's"?

Any and all info is welcome and I will also read some of the previous posts and see if any help is there.

Thanks so much!
reese

I think you will need a car. (I would have to visit Tybee Island/beach area.)
In fact--you might want to stay on Tybee. If the trip is planned prior to March--there should be some good rates.)
