Good example J2. He's doing great work peeling back the layers to reveal the old facades. To me, this more than makes up for that one building he has to take out. It worries me a bit as a precedent, but so far he's doing good stuff.

Broughton developer: 'It's not my project' | savannahnow.com
He also said his drawings for arches and other things on Broughton are just concepts and ideas, and not exact plans. I like this. I think he is interested in working with the community and soliciting ideas. Overall I think it will come out nice. I have also come to like his planters. And I"m sure he'll put in ones that are a bit more polished eventually. Unlike most cities, we have a a very distinct architecture but I think this makes us stronger. It actually makes developers be more creative and create even better projects, too.

Here are some renderings from the design competition for the H&M store. Has anyone seen the renderings of what will actually be built?

I'm not impressed. Hopefully it looks better than the renderings.

Has the been any word on new retailers or restaurants being announced soon? This project has been pretty quiet since Carter got approval for the H&M store.

The Ancient Olive opened a couple weeks ago, and l'occitane was supposed to open today. Work continues on several other storefronts but nothing has been announced. Also, Carter has placed elaborate Christmas decorations in the windows of many of the empty stores which I thoight was a nice touch.

I hope to go see the windows on Broughton St. That is nice, that Ben Carter did that. He was probably going for Brownie Points, but it works for me.

You "hope" to go see? I'm just curious: Is going downtown really that big of a deal for you, or that rare? I ask this as someone who CHOOSES to go downtown 5-6 times a week because I just like being downtown. I'd already noticed the windows earlier this week (before I posted something about them) because I was downtown. They are rather hard to miss.

I used to work downtown and loved being there every day, but now we hardly ever get down there. I must really block out a chunk of time to go down, drive a half hour, circle for a place to park for a half hour, limit my visit to 1-2 hours because the meter will run out, unless I'm in a garage, which usually has a FULL sign on...... It makes me tired just thinking about it. I will go definitely make the effort before Christmas, and also again with holiday visitors.
