Sunday Savannah St. Patrick's Day bar bill signed into law | savannahnow.com

Quote:
Aldermen Tony Thomas and Van Johnson had pushed for bars to be able operate on Sundays throughout the year, but the bill was watered down to improve its chances of passing.
^^^ It's only a matter of time -- perhaps as soon as next year -- before this becomes reality and the last of Georgia's archaic blue laws are tossed out for good. The precedent has already been set with both restaurants and liquor / package stores being able to sell on Sunday's. It makes no sense that ALL bars can't be open on Sunday as well.

Wow, times have changed - I remember when there were Blue Days or something similar sounding where they closed everything on Sundays. I heard they had these Blue Days in most of the South and Sunday was a day of rest and going to church and definitely no drinking.

I talked with some people from North Carolina and Tennessee a little while ago, and they said that the alcohol laws in Georgia are nothing compared to the complex restrictions they have in the rest of the south. I've always known South Carolina was pretty crazy, but not NC and TN. Apparently, any states with alcohol beverage control (ABC) stores are bad.

The Blue laws really put a damper on one's weekend. I was thinking the poor citizens who have to follow them couldn't even have any fun on Sundays. You work all week Monday to Friday, usually, probably even Sat for OT , then here comes Sunday, a day everything is closed, and you can't even go FISHING! Those laws even told you what you can't do in your life. I am glad the Blue Laws aren't around anymore - I hope they aren't!
