Going out to lunch there with friends. We will only have a couple hours. Any recommendations on a good quality restaurant that is friendly for tweens (not young kids so not that downscale)...and would be close to some sights we could see after lunch if we just have an hour?

Also, is the Historic District safe on a weekday daytime? Anything to be aware of (bad pockets to avoid or anything).

Thanks!

Historic District is safe 24X7... Anyplace that the majority of the homes are over 500k is safe pretty much 24X7.

What type of food there are over a hundred places to eat at.

Thai, Sushi, comfort food, upscale burgers? Upscale Ramon noodles? What do you want?

Just go to River Street. Plenty of restaurant choices down there. My personal favorite is Cotton Exchange Tavern.

As Bellhead said, the Historic District is ALWAYS safe. I don't know why anybody would think it wouldn't be --- ON A WEEKDAY DAYTIME?

If its a nice sunny day, I like to have lunch at Tubby's outside deck on River St. It is not fine dining at all, but you can get a passible fish sandwich or burger. It is a good vantage point for people watching and with luck you'll see a container ship go by.
If that doesn't look like what you want, there are abundant other choices there.

This is why the rooftop Steak n Shake in city Market will be a good new development!

so many great, fun choices downtown.
Vics On The River
The Melting Pot
The Distillery
so many great choices. Downtown is safe. Enjoy the squares and walk around. A trolley ride is always fun too.
