I've decided to move to Savannah by the end of the year and need some advice. I'd definitely come down a few weeks before and secure a job and an apartment. Being a huge tourist destination, I'm sure you have high and low seasons. If so, when are they? I'd really like to move by the beginning of November but could wait until after the holidays if that would be better. I have many years experience as a server and bartender but I'd hate to be struggling if I could have just waited another month or so. Thanks.

With "many years of experience" it might not matter when you get here. From what I've seen the industry is always looking for experienced help.

I'm not really sure why you felt the need to put my words in quote. Maybe i should have directed my question to anyone out there currently working in restaurants. Many cities are seasonal when it comes to hiring restaurant staff and it's a valid question. I'm assuming you don't or haven't worked in this industry. No need to he condescending.

Depends on the restaurant demographics.

For instance I've worked at a sushi bar located downtown, and a lot of business are SCAD students. During the Summer when school is out and they're all gone, it gets pretty up and down. It was busy the end of may beginning of June because of local graduations highschool and collegiate. Winter is pretty busy, March and April are usually busy for regular tourist restaurants, since it's usually the peak of the tourist season.

I also worked at arguably the busiest lunch place in Savannah a few years ago, the winter months were packed even on weekdays. Summer was steady but not too busy again because of the SCAD effect.

Also during summer you will get more high school students, so the tips will be either very bad or ok.

Waaaay off base. I was stating your qualifications as a PLUS. And your ASSumations are equaling off base .

Now you know why I put "experienced" in quotes...because it puts you ahead of students looking for smaller restaurant jobs vs. experienced help that might work at the more demanding jobs at major (and growing) hotels .OTOH perhaps I assumed incorrectly based on your judgemental response.

The Dark Knight :

Thanks for your input. It's season up here in the Northeast as opposed to when i was in New Orleans where it's busy January through June. That's mainly due to the festivals, though. Yes, i could see how the student population would affect both tips and the job search. Good to know.
