Visiting Savannah beginning of December, any good suggestions within walking distance of Hyatt Regency for Restaurants/nightlife? Would like to go to a restaurant that has great seafood etc but also, great other food.(I'm picky)

Great seafood is surprisingly rare in Savannah, which I've never really understood. You can usually get a good fresh catch special at the high end places. I suggest Alligator Soul or The Pink House. There are several excellent sushi places downtown too.

I know!!! I go to Skippers fish camp for dinner. Love's seafood may have great scenery but the place is gross. Which goes for most of the slop on river St too. We have great Thai, Caribbean and French restaurants and mm dessert = Leopold's.. but no good seafood. And no Indian downtown either... For good eating.. get away from River St...

I still haven't been to alligator soul yet, but I have heard great things.

I have heard that Pearl's is good for fish, but it isn't downtown.

"... within walking distance of the Hyatt ... "

For seafood, I recommend COTTON EXCHANGE TAVERN on River Street (about 3 blocks east of the Hyatt).

It took me a couple of years to figure out how to find restaurants that serve good quality food, fish and "other food" under the same roof. I believe part of the answer is to take off your list any restaurant , in the vicinity of the hotel you are going to stay at references in their name, such as " fish, crab, shrimp, shack, boat, wharf, dock, clam, lobster or the 'best' ".

To get what you want you need to find a good restaurant serving both fish, meat, vegetables, along with service people that know how to serve it.

I would recommend:
Bistro 45
B. Matthews
The Pink House

B Mathews - try the duck waffles. Maybe not seafood but sure are good!

pink I thought about the places your rule applies to and boy are you right! For example Joe's Crab Shack I have heard is terrible. Same with most of the other River St tourist restaurants. I have heard Chart House is good but since it is so pricey I have not been yet. Will try it one day.

Downtown, I've also found the recently re-opened Sorry Charlies to be very good. Savannah is full of places that serve good seafood along with other options. For fine dining, I'd also recommend:
Garibaldi
The Grey
Sapphire Grill

More than a half dozen recommendations. All without crab, shrimp, shack etc in the restaurant's name. I think we're on to something here. Lol
