The decision by the Savannah City Council this week to consider suspending the alcohol license of Club Rain across from City Hall on Bay Street comes after 269 public safety calls at the downtown night spot since 2010, according to the hearing notice sent out by the city attorney’s office Tuesday.

The notice states that past complaints about fights, litter, noise, crowds and gunplay associated with the club led to the alcohol license holder, Felichia Lalsee, agreeing to discontinue “bike night” back in 2012.

In addition, the shooting of two people after 3 a.m. on April 28, 2013 on the corner of Bay and Bull streets had begun as a verbal altercation inside the establishment, according to Savannah-Chatham police.

Within the past year, firearms have been discharged inside the club on at least two occasions, according to the city attorney’s office. On Dec. 21, 2014, just before 2 a.m., a man fired his handgun into the floor, claiming he felt threatened by other patrons.

Security screenings again failed on Dec. 12, when shortly before 2 a.m. a fight erupted within the club involving security personal and club patrons that culminated in the firing of two shots inside the business, city officials say. Ten minutes later, police were called to the nearby Whitaker Street garage in response to a gun battle in which four people were shot.

At least one of the alleged perpetrators has admitted to the police that the incident began on Club Rain’s premises, City Attorney Brooks Stillwell said in the notice.
