I want to bring in the new years somewhere other than Atlanta. I was thinking about Athens or Savannah. How is the bar scene and crowds in Savannah for New Years. Is Uber service reliable in the area? What area is popular for New Year celebration in Savannah?

I'm out of the social whirl, but my kids use Uber all the time in Savannah.

The historic district is full of bars and party-goers over New Year's. I imagine you could have fun in either place, but there is more to do in Savannah.

I'm no fan of NY Eve and have tended to avoid it in recent years, but can tell you that -- just as on any weekend -- there is NO shortage of crowds and clubbing options in Savannah on that night. The main party areas will of course be River Street (more rowdy) and City Market (more upscale / families). Expect to pay the usual double rates for hotels, high cover charges and inflated drink prices.

Uber is pretty prevalent in downtown Savananh on the weekends and I'm sure will be out in full force on Dec 31 / Jan. 1. Though Savannah has tons of cabbies and many offer specials on that night to discourage drunk driving, so your options are pleatiful.
