I last drove it about a year ago, I must admit. Once upon a time I had to drive from Savannah to Statesboro every day for work, and I hated those drives! Glad to hear a good (cheap!) idea has been adopted.

Well, to your credit most of the wildflowers are further up the highway I think, especially the closer you get to Maxon. And believe me, they are indeed quite beautiful. I think the stretch between a Savannah and Statesboro mostly has pines in the median (after you leave Bryan County).

I recall someone tried for many years to decorate a scraggly old pine tree in that median near the Highway 67 exit, adding tinsel garland and odd-looking 'ornaments' (on a tree that was about twenty feet tall) for several Christmases in a row. I always admired their spirit, if not their budget constraints.

Yes. The tree is still there and quite handsome and healthy. Alas, it has not been decorated for several Christmas seasons now. I don't know if weather and nature finally took their course, or if the DOT stripped it of the ornaments.

A little bit more detailed information from garoads.org, the Georgia DOT website highlighting all the mobility projects...
I-16/95 Interchange & Widening I-16: I-95 to I-516
(2 Separate Projects)
These projects would reconstruct the existing I-16 at I-95 interchange in
Chatham County. Proposed improvements include:
• Construction of new fly overs and extension of ramps.
• One additional general-purpose lane along I-16 between I-95 and I-516.
• The new lanes would be constructed by widening to the existing inside,
grassed median.
Estimated Costs*: $244 Million

An open house will happen Tuesday discussing the plans for the I-16/I-95 interchange, plus the widening of I-16. The project will begin in 2016...

The public is encouraged to come view displays and discuss the details of the proposed major improvement project with Georgia DOT staff. The public meeting is scheduled 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Garden City’s City Hall, located at 100 Central Avenue.

The proposed projects would include:

• The addition of one general purpose lane along I-16 eastbound and westbound between I-95 and I-516. Widening for the new lane in each direction is proposed toward the inside median to the extent possible.

• I-16 and I-95 interchange improvements will include reconstructing two of the high-volume loop ramps serving I-95 southbound to eastbound and I-16 westbound to southbound into direct fly-over ramps. Two lower-volume loop ramps serving I-95 northbound to westbound and I-16 eastbound to northbound would be reconstructed and separated from the I-95 mainline; this would eliminate the mainline weaving along I-95. New northbound collector-distributor lanes would be constructed to connect these ramps.

The end result of Interstate 16 and Interstate 95 is similar to Interstate 20 and Interstate 520 in Augusta-Richmond County.

That's wonderful they're planning that. Now if only they'd spend more resources on finally finishing Georgetown Flyover instead of delaying it.

If I were the Georgia Department of Transportation, I would seriously propel a flyover from Interstate 95 northbound to Interstate 16 westbound. It would greatly help with Macon to Jacksonville, Florida, traffic.
